‘Palazzo Verga’ is a museum in itself. The edifice, together with the furniture and the décor maintained within it, witnesses and documents in every single facet, the reality of a culture related to the typical semi-urban character of a social surrounding in Southern Italy around the nineteenth century. The entire estate, the elements of culture and the accoutrements of everyday life remind us of the days of the wealthy family who inhabited the palazzo back in the time of its initial splendor; a family whose members over the years served in significant public positions, carrying out decisive tasks and taking part in important decisions for the local population as well as for the future of the entire territory.
The last family members to inhabit the palazzo were Cav. Giulio Verga and his wife, Baronessa Teresa Bevilacqua, with their children Maria, Esther, Vittoria, Patrizia, Giacinto and Saveria. Saveria left the ‘Palazzo Verga’ and the ‘Cappella Verga’, both of which came to be considered cultural heritage, to the current owners: direct descendants of the family Verga.
‘Palazzo Verga’, after a delicate restoration by the owners, today, is giving a warm welcome to its guests offering a charm and a splendour related to other times.
‘Palazzo Verga’ at the very moment proposes a hospitality limited to a maximum of eight sleeping places. A restricted quantity allowing us to offer the best to our guests.
There are three suites collocated at the attic of the palazzo itself: ‘Savria’, ‘Maria’ e ‘Giacinto’. At the first floor of the annexed building called magazine there is located the suite ’Vittoria’. Every single suite is composed of a little lounge, a bedroom and private facilities. The rooms conserve their original decors, they are furnished with original period furniture and with linen of the family’s trousseau.
Moreover there is the possibility to benefit of a private parking, of the historic environment situated on the first floor of the palazzo with his luxury lounge, the library and the picturesque kitchen, besides of the spacious and romantic courtyard - garden.
The hospitably guarantees a high quality where the guest is fully integrated in the refined family’s environment of the owners.
Residing at ‘Palazzo Verga’ it is possible to experience the magic and the atmosphere of the past combined with all the comfort of today.
The picturesque interior of the annex used once as stable and a sort of bakery, which has his access from the courtyard and still conserves the antique oven, is going to offer his place for a distinct restaurant. The meals, proposed with fantasy, will evoke the traditional cuisine of the place and propose also the national and international gastronomy. Nearby the restaurant, at the first floor of the annex called magazine, the wine bar is going to permit the visitors to taste the typical products of the surroundings reminding the flavours of Calabria.
The restaurant and the wine bar are going to be also open to the public and, ‘Palazzo Verga’, on request, will be also pleased to organize unforgettable receipts as well.
Besides of the traditional holidays and the gastronomic excursions, ‘Palazzo Verga’, using the multi functional spaces, is going to organize also events, exhibitions, meetings and lessons. All the activities will be connected to the historic archive of the family Verga, which qualified researchers are welcome to study and there is going to be a cultural program for every season of a certain level.

‘Palazzo Verga’ is situated in the peaceful historic centre of Cotronei, a little village near the Sila of Crotone. Far away from every sort of mass-tourism, it is a ideal place for who looks for serenity and tranquillity.
A fortunate setting, from where it is possible to reach easily the marvellous costs of the Ionian sea and the deep green forest of the Sila. The seaside, characterized by the variety of his beaches, invites to immerge oneself into the water from May to October and the scenery of the mountains makes it difficult to believe to be in one of the most southern places of Europe, if it was not for the view over the infinity of the sea.

The centrals of electricity ‘Timpagrande’ and ‘ Calusia’ are representing two historic buildings of 1927/30, important testimony of the village’s history and it’s development. Indeed, it was during the inauguration of ’Timpagrande’ that the king Vittorio Emanuele III has visited ‘Palazzo Verga’, event still testified by a slab of marble conserved in the palazzo.
Moreover, in several moments during the whole year, there is also the possibility to participate at several manifestations organized by the municipality of Cotronei and other nearby villages.
