Opening Set: KITTYPEP [BK]
Founder and resident DJ of the Wobble and OpenAir parties in NYC, and a former 2-year resident at Cielo, Arana has steadily built a reputation as one of the city's most dynamic DJs by dropping tight sets of deep house, techno and electronica & moving dance floors with bending basslines, intricate layers and an uncompromising focus on musicality beyond the simple boom-boom.
Using a 3-channel setup and an aggressive mixing style, Arana's sets push into live-remix terrain through looping, effects and fader cuts, with sometimes surprising movements between bright/uplifty and dark/dirty extremes. Whatever labels are attached to his style, Arana has an uncanny ability to hear the harmonic, rhythmic and melodic elements which he knows will resonate with his audience to inspire authentic movement and feeling on the floor.
Arana honed his musical ear composing on classical guitar and playing in rock bands as a teen. After moving to NYC for law school, he fell in love with dance music, taught himself to DJ as he juggled life as a corporate lawyer, and then launched the first Wobble parties in 2004. Arana has shared the stage with Paul Ritch, Kaiserdisco, Reset Robot, Miguel Migs, Daniel Sanchez, Willie Graff, Grünbox, Sabb, AFFKT and Gene Farris, among others.
Nurvous Records/French Express
As a DJ, Blueshift delivers a set that is emphatically unique and indulgent for any crowd. With an appreciation for a wide range of styles, especially deep house and nu-disco, his sets provoke a nostalgic vibe that is perfectly balanced with the sounds of today. Always ahead of the curve on the latest releases and giving new life to buried gems, there is no limit to his inspiration. Blueshift's highly selective ear, feel for the dance floor, and years behind the decks allow him to entertain a diverse selection of audiences with no compromise on quality.
On the production side, Blueshift works with a range of sounds that combine elements of deep and progressive house. His tracks have been signed to various notable labels that focus on this sound. Most recently, his collaboration with fellow-Philadelphian Ily under the moniker "Mr. Falcon" saw a release on Nurvous Records along with a remix from Rhythm Operator. The EP hit #35 in the Beatport Top 100 Indie Dance/Nu Disco Releases, was a featured Staff Pick, and has gained support from DJs such as Beckwith, JKriv, and Anna Wall.
Blueshift has the the distinct privilege of co-founding the French Express blog and working for a time with the now world-famous brand's publicity. As well as writing articles for the top-tier blog, Stoney Roads, he also is a resident DJ and promoter for various parties in Philadelphia and New York. There is no question Blueshift has his finger on the pulse of underground dance music.
KELLAM is a fixture in the NYC underground dance music scene as a DJ and Event Producer. He got his footing hosting and djing marathon sets at numerable afterhours in NYC and at festivals like Burning Man, and other events across the US. His positive energy and knack for weaving together deep melodic tracks has made him a rising star in the dance music world. His recent successes all boil down to his genuine interest in people, and cultivating experiences that allow people to smile, let go and dance. An uplifting shift in energy is ever apparent the moment Kellam steps into the DJ booth, which has quickly gained him popularity in the underground house music circuit. In the last year alone he has shared the bill with many notable artists including: Damian Lazarus, Bob Moses, Behrouz, Claptone, Thugfucker, Naveen G, Tara Brooks, Anthony Attalla, Swamy & Dill, and many others.
Given an inherent appreciation and understanding of music, Seth Hosko possesses an ideal résumé for mastering the art of mixing records. Despite being terrified to touch a mixer three years ago, Seth has a near lifetime of musical experience, with a variety of instruments including violin, cello, and piano. While an early opportunity with the Lehigh University Philharmonic opened the way for a serious classical career, it was a passion for quality, experimental electronic music that landed the budding virtuoso behind the decks.
He stepped up for a major gig in early 2013, opening for his first DJ hero Brad Miller during one of his respected Push The Night events at the legendary Sullivan Room. Recently Seth has been invited to play with friends at Verboten, Wobble, Ebb+Flow, Exile, and Carmel Productions.
Crafting a decidedly organic class of deep house and techno, Seth’s individual style reflects the instrumental roots that initially shaped his musical temperament – melodies and experimental elements strewn with both elegance and sophistication. Wherever he takes us next, we'll be there - eyes closed, hands in the air, and a smile on our face.
Terron Darby is shining his light proving that experience and deep understanding make him one of the freshest talents on the east coast house music scene.
Co founder of Miami based DJ collective DHM (Deep House Movement), Darby has been deeply entrenched in the house community since the early 90’s. From managing a record store, to his foundational music composition roots as a professional audio engineer, to a technology educator with loads of accolades to boast… through it all, he has found his way into a new place on his musical passageway in New York.
Darby knows his way around music and while he could adopt the “been there, done that attitude” rather adopts an infectious and luminous personality, solid perspective of balance paired with a zealous dedication to his calling.
With a focus on his own production efforts, worldwide exposure, and New York party movement "PLAYDATE”–a curated experience of sound and art, made by a collective of artists, musicians, and friends bringing the highest quality electronic music to NYC-Darby has a hand in all aspects of the industry.
Along with that comes the delivery of unleashing a collection of tracks he’s been working fervently in the studio for the launch of the PLAYDATE label . . . a stand out release called "Oblique Strategies" a title deriving from a deck of cards that Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt created.... a piece of work that represents his sound discovery over the years, and also one he’s most proud of the result he deems as “dance floor worthy.”
It’s apparent his accomplishments thus far are paying off and receiving love not just from the dance floor, but also from peers and the industry alike. At the core, Darby’s quest in music thrives from emotion –the feeling of positive energy and blissful expression.
“Anything that’s this special to me (as music) in such a powerful way - I simply want to share this feeling so that the person experiencing it can create their own story with it. If something is good it will find its way..”
KittyPep is made up of the boyfriend/girlfriend DJ duo of Kayla and Andy, aka DJ Kitty and Pepzler. DJ Kitty plays a more upbeat, funky blend of house, while Pepzler tends to stick to techier, and at times, darker sounds. When the two come together in head to head mixing, the individual styles become something more. The result is a musical ride where you can expect almost anything, and you’re sure to be left entertained and wanting more. That is KittyPep and we’re purrrfect together.
