CHÀTEAU FLIGHT - Gilb'r (Versatile - FRA)
Château Flight is the collaboration between Parisian DJ and producers Gilb’r and Nicolas Chaix, aka I:Cube. The two are a ragbag of different infuences and styles: Gilb'r is a hip-hop-loving ex-radio jock who even became known for spinning drum’n’bass alongside the likes of Fabio and Grooverider during the nineties, while I:Cube’s debut single ‘Disco Cubizm’ propelled him into the premier league of French house producers when he was just a teenage schoolboy.
The pair formed Château Flight in 1997 with an open agenda, and have since released a variety of remixes and albums on Gilb’r’s Versatile label. Château Flight’s music is informed as much by dark disco and experimental as house and techno. “Château Flight is a pure playground project, a field where neither of us has been before,” says Gilb’r. “It gives us the freedom to try any idea or technical process.” Their latest efforts are a score specially written for the silent film Les Vampires and the EP ‘Baroque’ out on hot Berlin label Innervisions, home of Âme, Dixon and Henrik Schwarz. As Schwarz puts it: “These two guys reach a level of complexity right now that no one else out there seems to reach.”
AUDIOFLY (Luca Saporito / Supernature – ITA)
Although widely regarded as a member of the true A-list of dance music, both in terms of production, DJing and label management, it was a chance meeting led to Anthony Middleton and Luca Saporito, an audio engineer/musician and working dj respectively, becoming Audiofly back in 2002.
Fairly quickly the pair’s groovy, melodic and undulating take on house music started to create a huge fan base, both in the press (DJ Magazine featured the duo on a special covermount CD), in clubs (Space Ibiza residency) and finally in production, with uber-imprints Get Physical, Mood Music, Kickboxer and Renaissance calling on their talents.
Now, the duo are pushing their sound even further with a gig diary that takes in the likes of Fabric, Warung, Amnesia and countless other world reknowned clubs as well as a forthcoming album in the works but they still finding time to develop other artists via their own Supernature imprint.
