Members of the Interdepartmental commission without additional discussion approved carrying out in the Russian Federation the next XVIII Deaflympic winter games. Games will take place from February 27 to March 7, 2015 on sporting venues of Khanty-Mansiysk on five winter sports: cross-country skiing, snowboard, curling, mountain skiing and ice hockey.
Deaflympics have a rich and old story, are carried out, since 1924, in a year following after a year of the Olympic Games and are the main international competitions among hard of hearing persons. The upcoming winter Deaflympics of 2015 will be the eighteenth, since that moment as in 1949 in Austria the first winter Games of deafs took place.
Participation more than 450 athletes from more than 30 countries of the world is supposed. In total 33 sets of medals will be played. Since tomorrow the Ministry of sports of Russia, Deaflympic committee of Russia and the leadership of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area will start formation of organizing committee and active work on preparation and carrying out winter Games of deafs in Russia.
Games it is planned to hold from February 25 to March 8, 2015 within 12 days. The opening ceremony - on February 27, the closing ceremony on March-7. All competitions will be held by rules of the relevant international sports federations. Despite high level of the competition, at all previous winter Games of deafs Soviet, and then and the Russian national team, steadily won first place in an informal team competition.
Sporting venues of Khanty-Mansiysk conform to all necessary requirements of the International committee of sports of deafs and will allow to hold qualitatively competitions in five sports, and the hotel fund is capable to accept more than 1000 people at a time.
The Deaflympic committee of Russia allocates 4,7 million rubles for carrying out these games, and in case of need, is ready to cover additional expenses.
