The response thus far from all of you has been simply incredible – you, our dedicated readership, have provided us with the impetus and drive to continue to push the boundaries of what a youth culture magazine can mean in Cape Town and South Africa in this day and age.
Now, we’re taking things to the next level. And we’re asking you, again, to join us for the ride.
PLATFORM Presents 01
As part of our mission to constantly find new ways to engage with and stimulate our audience, we have teamed up with prominent Cape Town party planners naasEVENTS and The Other____ and will be throwing our first ever event on the 4th of April 2014. It will feature five cutting-edge South African artists, each representing a wide array of musical styles.
The event will be thrown at Dragon Room in Harrington Street. Mixing progressive music of the highest quality with live art by some of Cape Town’s most prominent artists and décor and design of the highest calibre, the night promises to showcase the best of Cape Town and South Africa while providing an entirely immersive experience for everyone in attendance.
Since releasing their debut self-titled LP last year, John Wizards have propelled themselves to international recognition. With performances this year at Primavera (Barcelona and Lisbon), Parklife and Iceland Airwaves, 2014 is set to be an even bigger year for this extraordinarily exciting act.
Currently sitting with the number 1 song in the country in their collaboration with DJ Clock, ‘Pluto (Remember You)’, Beatenberg represent everything that is good about South African pop music right now. Their second album is due out this year and, if their live act is anything to go by, it couldn’t come sooner.
Zaki Ibrahim is a truly unique Canadian-South-African artist, performing an infectious mix of pop, jazz and soul. Her most recent album, Every Opposite, was nominated for a SAMA in the category of Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album of 2013. She is renowned for her live performances, which feature Mr Sakitumi.
Felix Laband is one of the godfathers of the South African electronic music scene. He is world-renowned in his field. He hasn’t played in Cape Town for a while, but he’s back to remind us all why he’s the king.
Thibo Tazz is one of Cape Town’s finest House DJs/Producers. He has an eclectic reference palette, not confined to one sound or idea, but rather marrying all the qualities to form his version of House music.
