SEEKING SPACE is the official visual arts group show of Bushwick Open Studios, curated through an open call by Arts in Bushwick organizers.
Seeking Space, the 5th annual official Bushwick Open Studios group exhibition, is currently accepting submissions. Created by local artists in 2010, this curatorial project began as a creative solution to offer Bushwick artists lacking studio space or gallery representation an opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional environment. From its inception, Seeking Space has presented a diverse range of mediums and formats, including large-scale installations, interactive video projections, and musical performances. As the show’s scope continues to expand alongside the ever-growing arts community in Bushwick, our goal is to debut new talent and transform new spaces with unparalleled, site-specific projects. This year, we are excited to be hosting Seeking Space at The Active Space, one of Bushwick's premier exhibition venues. The Active Space is generously offering their state of the art exhibition and event space to Seeking Space from May 30 through June 29. The selected visual artists will be further showcased against a backdrop of DJs and projection art at a not-to-be-missed opening event hosted by Arts in Bushwick on Friday, May 30, from 7-12:00 pm.
Applicants must submit the following to firstname.lastname@example.org by MAY 1, 2014:

2D ARTWORK: Paper and photography artwork must be professionally mounted and framed. Artwork on wood, canvas, or related substrates must come with proper hanging materials.
SCULPTURE: If you are interested in contributing sculpture or site-specific work, please contact us and we will send you photos of the space. It is also open to the public throughout the week, so you may visit to take a quick look at what we are working with. We are able to accommodate ceiling-mounted installations, or works that will fit tightly against walls and crevices.
VIDEO/PROJECTION ART: For works in this medium, please include up to 3 links to Vimeo videos or something comparable. Though we are able to provide a projector for use in a specific area of the exhibition, please note that video artists seeking to present wall-mounted work will be asked to provide their own monitor, as well as to install it during our installation date the week before the opening. Please include as many specifications as possible when submitting video or projection based artwork.
Projection artists have the opportunity to propose to project onto the facade of the building.
PERFORMANCE: Seeking Space focuses on visual arts, but we will consider performance on a case by case basis. Please follow the basic submission guidelines listed above when making inquiries regarding performances.
