The Studio Miners are curating their third annual group show at myplasticheart in NYC, opening on Friday, April 11, 2014. In this latest exhibition, entitled Works Cited, they’ve asked artists to delve into the world of children's literature.

As part of the exhibition, myplasticheart will be accepting book donations on behalf of the Books for Kids Foundation (http://www.booksforkids.org/), a nonprofit organization based in NYC, whose mission is to promote literacy among all children with a special emphasis on low-income and at risk preschool-aged children. For each book donated, myplasticheart will offer the donator 10% off his/her next purchase in store on day of donation. Acceptable donations are brand new, hardcover books appropriate for children ages 0 – 6. For more book guidelines, please contact myplasticheart at (646) 290-6866. What the curators say about the exhibition:
“Stories are incredibly powerful tools - ones that teach, connect, inspire, and help us to learn about ourselves. As children, bedtime stories built our imaginations. Reading sharpened our mind's eye as we envisioned the characters in our books. Beautifully crafted illustrations in picture books introduced us to artwork and at times served as teachers, as we recreated scenes from our favorite pages. With access to technology more readily available today, children aren't as likely to sit down and read a book as they are to catch a snippet of a story in an online game or in a thirty second ad on television. Flexing your imagination through reading as a child is incredibly important in the development of creativity and visualization, so we are asking artists to reflect on the importance of literature in their childhoods in this upcoming group show.”

About the Studio Miners
The Studio Miners are Evoker and Team Sweet. On a trip to Florida in early 2011, the two swapped stories of previous visits to intriguing and inspiring spaces. They both had made it a habit to wander into or find invitations to these magical places. As the conversation went on, they decided it would be for the best to collect their efforts and start a website dedicated to documenting the wonderfully exciting world of artists, collectors, and creatives of all kinds.
