We're very excited to announce our next OXYGEN night . . . making his OXYGEN debut, we welcome Mr “HeadF**K" himself Ben Nicky!!!
Ben Nicky has fast established himself as one of the leaders of a new generation of DJs and producers to emerge out of the UK. A highly respected producer, his tunes and remixes find themselves in the playlists of the world's biggest and best DJs, whilst his talents as an accomplished DJ and performer see him tour all four corners of the globe.
2011 saw Ben enter DJ Magazines' Top DJs poll at number 150 in the world, whilst being voted at number 24 in the Tranceaddict 2011 poll - a testament to his ever increasing popularity with dance music fans the world over. This popularity was further enhanced in 2012 when DJ Mag invited Ben to select his top 10 tracks for their February edition. Other leading dance music publication 'Mixmag' also picked him out for their 'Keep An Eye On' feature in the March edition - high praise indeed!!
Early 2012 will now see Ben return to AVA recordings, where he has released some of his biggest and best material, including the massively supported collaboration with trance legend M.I.K.E. entitled "Spring Break" and Ben's own "Lifeline". April 2012 brings an exciting collaboration between Ben and rising trance producer Tom Fall entitled 'Hammer', as well as the start of the production work for the long awaited follow up to the massive vocal smash 'The One' featuring vocal superstar Cassandra Fox.
Ben has a strong production history and back catalogue including titles such as: "Driven" , "Special Moment", "Tears", "Jet Stream", "Altitude" and "Rattle", alongside remixes for artists including: Calvin Harris, First State and Giuseppe Ottaviani. Labels like Vandit, Monster, Armada and Black Hole have all released product from Ben, whilst he was recently described by Armin Van Buuren as "one of the hardest working artists in the trance scene". His bootlegs and mashups have become firm favourites in the DJ sets of artists including Armin, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Andy Moor, Judge Jules and many many more.
Demand for Ben's energetic and engaging DJ sets has seen him regularly jet off to all four corners of the globe, including gigs as far afield as India, Malta, Poland, Hawaii, Ibiza, Russia, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan and Miami to name but a few. With the future looking really bright, Ben is not an artist to sit back, and 2015 already shows signs of being an even bigger and better year for this young, emerging talent. Wherever Big J performs he re-educates clubbers and destroys dance floors. With a complete spectrum of fused genres he builds an unforgettable journey of emotion and sound Big J’s reputation has given him success both on the locally and international stage as a DJ. His distinctive sound has evolved over the years through keeping his ears to the ground of the worldwide trance community
Over the years, he has played to crowds worldwide from the UK, Australia and Ibiza including the infamous ‘Gallery nights’ at both Turnills and Ministry of Sound in London. Warmin up and taking over from the likes of Lange, Roger Shah, Ronski Speek, Ferry Corsten, Thomas Datt, Liam Wilson, Photographer, 4 Strings, Richard Durand, Aaron Camz, Matt Bowdidge, Binary Finary, Mark Leanings and many more.
Big J's love in dance music started in his early teens. Previously immersed in more alternative sounds of Guns'N'Roses and Metalica, a friend introduced him to the now world famous Gatecrasher and Trance Nation compilations. The turning point System F – Out of the Blue, Armin – Communication and Blank & Jones -Cream. He was hooked.
Big J's preferred genre of choice was of course Trance. However, he wanted to develop and mature his tastes to avoid becoming a one trick pony and explored the world of House music. Concentrating on Deep and Soulful House. This of course helped develop his sets and cater to a very different crowd. This is why he loves to take the crowd on an emotional journey by building up his sets, taking them right to the edge.
Moving back to his main love (Trance) in the highly competitive arena, Big J creates seamless sets to educate and entertain the dance floor fusing together the melodic harmony, and techy side of Trance, with a touch of progressive to set the scene and of course "Big J's blast from the past" tune.
