A glimpse of the Netherlands on the shores of Lake Trasimeno: 9 to 13 April the Tulip Festival returns to animate the streets of Castiglione del Lago with an edition, the 48th, which promises to be more spectacular than ever. Attracted by the highlight of the event scheduled Sunday, April 13th - the parade of floats prepared by the five districts and exclusively decorated with tulips - but not alone: the taverns open for the occasion are an irresistible attraction for lovers of good food, while Games in period dress of Ascanio della Cogna (half of the 500) give highly spectacular and funny moments. You will be able to eat "ribs with rapid Trasimeno" or the ribs cooked on the grill, powered by a wood fire with a turnip, color similar to that of chicory. Then there will be spaghetti with white sauce tench, a fish from the lake. Do not miss the spaghetti sauce fish (eel, perch and much more). For the sweet tooth there is the fried smelt. Spaghetti with carp eggs queen. For those who love meat there will be to everyone's taste.
From 1956 to date, more than 1,500 wagons set up for the occasion and the theme chosen for this year, "Carousel", he promises to leave viewers speechless. Visitors can walk on Sunday morning along the streets of a country that wakes up decked: as if by magic, hundreds of thousands of tulips bloom from windows, balconies, windows of shops and offices, squares and street corners. In time the locals have become true professionals dell'addobbo, so as to win the award multiple times for the best balcony or showcase the best flowers.
It is then difficult to remain indifferent to the beauty of Castiglione del Lago, situated in a unique natural environment and with a pretty historic center all included within the medieval walls. From the three gates to the town you can visit the Doge's Palace and Fortress, as well as the church of St. Mary Magdalene and the Palazzo del Popolo, but a great visual impact is also the scenic route down the outer walls along the Poggio Olive. For lovers of nature, however, there really are spoiled for choice: from the ability to engage in all water sports to tennis, from riding to hiking and mountain-biking along the bike path that runs along the lake.
