Live music at Hawthorne Cafe features young musicians within our community, and is held every second Friday from 7:30 - 8:30.
On April 11, we are very excited to have three very talented young musicians come perform.
First, we have Mira Meikle. Mira is a singer/songwriter from Oakville, Ontario, Canada. She has been compared to Tori Amos, Jane Siberry, Regina Spektor, and Kate Bush. In May 2012, Mira was nominated by the Oakville Arts Council, and won the "Young Performer" category in the Cogeco "Stars Among Us" competition. Her song “Solar Activated” won first in the CFMTA/FCAPM National student composer competition. She is also the singing voice of "Olive" in the childrens’ animated series "Justin Time".
Next, Ivy James. At the tender age of 17, Oakville singer-songwriter Ivy is already making a big splash in the Toronto music scene, having already made appearances at Canadian Music Week and KOI Fest as a solo act. With the addition of a backing band, and a sophomore EP on the horizon, Ivy is ready to take the world by storm. For fans of Cady Groves and Kate Voegele, Ivy James’ won’t disappoint with her energetic pop-rock sound.
Finally, Chris Strazz & the Mouthbreathers. What happens when you cross the soulful voices and pop sensiblities of John Mayer and Jason Mraz with a hint of funk, R&B, and blues? You get Brampton-native Chris Strazz and his Mouthbreathers - a collective of musicians hailing from everywhere across the Greater Toronto Area. Though he just recently won Singer Songwriter of the Year and had the 3rd most played track in York Region, Chris Strazz (and his Mouthbreathers) aren’t slowing down. They’re working on a debut album as the full band with producer Michael Evola, due out Spring 2014.
We would love to have you come out and support these three talented musicians.
Kerry and Matthew
