To my dear friends, family, & anyone willing to support our cause. Its time for the 2nd annual Key of Hope Shoe Collection Drive. Last year was a great success from beginning to end & I know this year will be even better.
Key of Hope was established in 2007 by our cousins Dan Smither & Rachel Smither. They sold all their belongings, packed up and moved to Durban, South Africa to help the children there. Not many people can drop everything and move to the most affected part of the world hit with Aids and the HIV virus. What started out as a program with 1 child has grown to over 1,000 children & is growing more & more each & every day. Dan & Rachel are doing a tremendous job, but they truly need all of our support. Their only support is through people giving donations and events like this.
These innocent children have been infected with the HIV virus and Aids. Most have lost their parents and families. Uncle Dan & Auntie Rachel is how they refer to them & are whom they run to for help. The children live in squatter camps, which are houses along the landfill made from the garbage collected there. In most cases their homes are no bigger then the inside of my truck & they manage day in & day out.
Downed power lines are a problem in these squatter camps. Last year a 10 year old boy Maqhawe and just of recent a 15 month old girl lost their lives due to a downed power line. The shoes we collected last year did not reach them in time, but now is the time to do something and help save them from these types of accidents. Lets get there feet grounded and prevent this from happening again.
I am asking for you to donate NEW sets of footwear. They can be sandals, flip flops, tennis shoes, dress shoes, & any other type of footwear you can buy. We ask for new because we want to be fair and give the same to everyone. You provide the footwear and I will provide the shipping to get them there. Its as simple as that. Boys and girls shoes off all sizes from toddlers to teens are needed.
If your out of town and not from my area, I can make arrangements if your interested in helping. Last year people donated cash and checks to help and I purchased items and sent them the receipts. I honestly would prefer gift cards instead of cash and please provide your return address, so I can send back your receipt, if you choose this route. I got great deals at Target, Walmart, Meijer, & Kmart & I bargain shopper for them. Online purchases are great to & can be sent directly to me at 6340 Sims Dr. Sterling Heights, MI 48313. If for any reason you can't get to me let me know. I can come to you if your local. Please feel free to get back to me if you have any questions whatsoever.
