Drummer and composer Giuseppe Paradiso was born in
Santeramo in Colle (BA), Italy in 1983. A graduate of both the Italian Conservatory N. Piccinni of Bari and Berklee College of Music, Paradiso has performed at widely recognized venues and festivals such as The Berklee Performance Center, The Newport Jazz Festival, Festival Paleariza in Reggio Calabria, Italy and the Conservatoire de Paris. Victor Mendoza, Director of Contemporary Performance of Berklee in Valencia refers to Paradiso as “an outstanding and unique musician with a definite direction in his art.”
Joining Paradiso is an international roster of musicians. From Ankara, Turkey is vocalist Burcu Gulec along with Massachusetts born Mark Zaleski on reeds, the Finnish Jussi Reijonen on guitar and oud, Swedish-Boston based and Berklee faculty Bruno Raberg on bass and pianist Utar Artun, also from Ankara, Turkey.
The group, which was formed in 2012, plays original music that is the result of extensive research into various musical styles, traditions and cultures. The Otherness Collection project was inspired by a collaboration with philosopher Francesco Paradiso (PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia) and aims to explore the ethical implications between the practice of world/jazz music and the philosophical concept of otherness. The album, which can be found on CdBaby.com, iTunes and Amazon, will be performed at Lily Pad.
