A new festival of music, comedy, street theatre and art, in celebration of Ulverston town and the birth of its most famous son, Stan Laurel....
Plans are afoot to create an Edinburgh Festival style party on the streets of Ulverston but we need your help to get the show on the road.
Check out our crowdfunding campaign & video here
We aim to provide a varied programme of free entertainment throughout town and invite you all to be a part of what we believe will become a massive annual event attracting visitors from all over the world
WHO WE ARE
We are an unfunded, not for profit group consisting of 3 local folks with a massive love for music, comedy, festivals, good times and of course our beloved Ulverston
Dave Crossley - Local event organiser and promoter. The man behind Monster Monster, Friday Night Live & Cumbria Culture
Mark Greenhow - Owner and curator of the world famous Laurel & Hardy Museum
Jakki Moore - Owner & manager of Millom's Beggar's Theatre, recent hosts to Alan Carr, Stephen K Amos, Bill Bailey & many more
THE TOWN WE LOVE
We love Ulverston! It really is what it claims to be, the "festival town", with its many and varied events and celebrations. We love the passion and the effort that those celebrating upon it's fine cobbled streets invest into its fantastic events such as The Dickensian Festival, The Carnival, Flag Fortnight, The Art Trail, The Folk Festival & more.
There is so much going on in this vibrant town but we believe that there is always space, and indeed, need for more, especially in these tough economic times. Events such as these bring much needed tourism into the area which helps to boost the local economy whilst bringing people together and providing a damn fine day out for kids of all ages
OUR DREAM & HOW YOU CAN MAKE IT REAL
Stan Laurel is Ulverston's most famous export, venerated across the entire globe for his comic timing and for the joy that he has brought to the world. And yet there is still no celebration of our hero in his birthplace!
Here are some of the ways that we could celebrate if the funds would allow;
FREE entertainment all day in the form of;
A STAGE outside the Laurel & Hardy Museum hosting live music and performance of all kinds
Interactive COMEDY WORKSHOPS within the museum, suitable for all ages
Roaming STREET THEATRE and performance throughout the town from stilt walkers to magicians, acrobats and musicians
LIVE GRAFFITI and various other artistic displays by local artists
COLOURFUL DECOR such as multicoloured cobbles, knitted lampposts, bunting, flags, gigantic bowler hats & more
If we fail to reach our crowdfunding target we will still host a party! Albeit a a much scaled down version minus many of the elements mentioned above.
We are encouraging several venues in town to become OFFICIAL STAGES and programme free events which we can incorporate into the festival.
We have already confirmed the following places as official venues,
AMIGOS - will play host to a live broadcast from Sonic Zoo Radio with DJs spinning music from around the world. Expect exotic beats, perfect for this house of spicy treats as well as musicians representing various nations
THE HOPE & ANCHOR- will have Folk music in the garden of beer and 20s-40s Swing & Jazz inside
THE SUN - will be rocking to the sweet sounds of Reggae outside in the beer garden, with Dingo Barracks programming a varied line up of acoustic & rock acts within the pub and Musical Mayhem throwing out underground sounds downstairs in the club till late
NATTERJACKS - will be story-telling and hosting a variety of musical styles
PROMOTING OUR AREA FAR & WIDE
We will advertise all of this activity in a free event programme which we hope we can pay for with sponsorship but any shortfall could be covered by money raised via our crowdfunding campaign located at www.indiegogo.com
We intend to distribute a minimum of 7000 copies across the North West in advance of the event but will produce even more if funds allow thus promoting our area further afield and attracting even more visitors
We could throw a pretty good party with the £2.5k that we are hoping for but the more you contribute, the more elements and acts we can include and the bigger, the more colourful and adventurous this could be....
Don't forget, there is no minimum donation and every single penny counts, but if you can manage a little more there are some great perks available
OTHER WAYS IN WHICH YOU CAN HELP
If you are unable to donate or to sponsor us, no worries! But maybe you could offer your skills or talents, your passion or enthusiasm in other ways.
Maybe you would like to busk on the streets, create some art or perform in one of the venues? Great! Get in touch with us and let's make it happen. We will also be looking for helpers/stewards to make this all run smoothly
