DJ Billy Nasty Bio
From the man who mixed the inaugural volume of the seminal ‘Journeys By DJs’ series, gaining him entry into the Guinness book of records for being the first DJ to produce a commercially available mix CD, we still find Mr. Nasty at the helm, box of records at his feet, doing what he has done best for the last quarter of a century.
But Billy Nasty has never been just a DJ, he has enjoyed an extensive recording career and runs two record labels highly-regarded by a broad range of DJs and record buyers alike. With a career spanning 25 years, Billy continues to travel the world as one of the most in-demand DJs, lighting up dancefloors at some of the most prestigious events and infamous clubs across the globe.
From early beginnings playing rare groove and funk to his first forays into acid house during his residency at London’s The Brain Club, to regular slots at seminal London clubs such as Final Frontier, Open All Hours, The Drum Club and Strutt, to having played pretty much every Festival and club worth mentioning ever since, Billy continues to DJ the world over whilst also maintaining a residency with esteemed electronic pioneers BLOC.
On top of his DJing, Billy Nasty has also maintained a strong production presence over the years. Earlier more progressive outings included Shi-Take (with Dave Wesson) or Vinyl Blair (with Chemical Brothers engineer Steve Dub) to his studio collaborations with Gregor Tresher and Anthony Rother on Datapunk, culminating in his current partnership with Keith Tenniswood (aka Radioactive) man as RadioNasty.
In 2013 Billy relaunched his legendary techno and electro imprints, Tortured and Electrix, to critical acclaim. The debut release on Tortured was the RadioNasty ‘Breakin Bad EP’, featuring two stunning Ben Sims remixes as well as two original tracks.
As RadioNasty the pair have unleashed several tracks over the last two years for labels such as Craig Richard’s The Nothing Special and EPM including the (relaunched) Tortured debut release 'Breakin Bad' EP and the 'Clave to the Rhythm' EP on Electrix. The guys were last seen disappearing into the studio bunker, planning the next slew of releases and collaborations, set to emerge over the coming year.
Currently based in the UK and recognized as a renowned hard working and forward thinking artist, Séjon (aka Chris Jones) is utilizing these qualities towards becoming an established techno producer and DJ.
Spending most of his hours dedicated to producing in the studio, Séjon has also found time to establish and co-manage UK techno imprint Gnosis Records, plus host the increasingly successful ‘Cadencia Podcast’, once a month.
As a DJ, Séjon has played for over ten years at many established techno club nights, including Hi-Tek-Soul and Wonderland at the Ministry Of Sound in London. His distinctive sound has also led to appearances at UK festivals including HI:FI South and Global Gathering. Now embracing a solely digital approach to DJing, Séjon is an avid user of Traktor Pro and Ableton Live. His genius utilization of both platforms in perfect synchronization with a unique choice of MIDI controllers, ensures his vast array of loops, tracks and effects are sublimely blended together stylishly on the fly. This approach has enabled him a refined ability to creatively multi-layer sounds on an entirely spontaneous nature, resulting in a thoroughly unique, captivating and defined style. His approach to DJing resulted in Séjon winning the 2011 Mixcloud South West Four DJ competition, and an opportunity to headline the Baby Box for Minus/Plus 8 at the Ministry Of Sound in London.
Séjon’s debut EP, titled ‘Ancillary Artifacts’, was released in August 2012 on Italian label Etichetta Nera and generated support from many artists including Josh Wink, SLAM, Reset Robot and Michel de Hey. This was followed in 2013 by his ‘Choux Bomb EP’, also on Etichetta Nera, plus his highly anticipated track ‘The End’ released on Gnosis Records. With further support from the likes of Ambivalent, Alberto Pascual, Richie Hawtin, DVS1, Anton Pieete and Truncate, Séjon’s stripped back, hypnotic styling continues to gain momentum. Further EPs are already scheduled with Etichetta Nera and Gnosis Records, plus a debut release on Angel Alanis and Steve Parker’s new label, D-Form, in 2014.
His objective to produce and play consistently acclaimed music, true to a real techno aesthetic, will no doubt form the basis of an interesting future with bright career prospects within the music industry.
