Saturday, May 10th (16-19 hours) you go to discover the landscapes on the edge of the area moist with a visit to historical and environmental Ponte Buggianese to Customs Medici Pratogrande of the dryer.
Fucecchio Marshes between history and nature ... Ponte Buggianese to the drying of the Medici Customs Pratogrande ", not only nature but also history, art and traditions in the spring visits organized by the Centre for Research, Documentation and Promotion of the Padule.
The route starts in Ponte Buggianese with a visit to the Parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel (Shrine of Our Lady of Good Counsel) where you can admire the frescoes made by master Pietro Annigoni since 1967 with the "Deposition and Resurrection of Christ" .
The work of Annigoni continued with the students of his school of painting that gave continuity to the initiative with new frescoes such as those of Romano Stefanelli Massarella; the work of the Milanese master, who had his schooling in Florence, has contributed to enrich the cultural identity of this environment.
The group, with a short transfer by car, moves to the location Anchione to understand, through the analysis of a building of great local importance, the Shed, the evolution that the area has suffered from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century: Marsh Farms and the grand-ducal of Bellavista, which was part of the Shed; the Marshes of ports and waterways; Leopoldina and the Marshes of the reclamation of the agricultural landscape century, the wheat and the "screws appioppate."
The Customs Medici's Shed is currently undergoing restructuring; will host a visitor center with guest wetland, the historical archive of Reclamation Consortium of the Padule and the museum of inland navigation.
From here you continue walking along the Canal Navicelli to discover the latest buildings disappearance of agriculture, in the shade of which was consumed by the tragedy of the massacre of 1944; along the way there are in fact many small plaques and monuments that recall the tragic event.
It finally arrives in the dryer Pratogrande, similar to a lost cathedral, built in the early twentieth century, along with those of Piaggione and Farm Settepassi to follow the drying and curing of the tobacco grown in adjacent fields. The Tobacconist of Pratogrande is also one of the main sites of the massacre; Here ends the meeting by reading the words of those who witnessed that terrible day.
The tour is open to all interested parties, with reservations required and through the payment of a small fee, and is conducted by an Environmental Guide authorized pursuant to Law 14/2005.
