For many years British laboratories have held cowering monkeys for use in vicious experiments and now, the same as ever, the cruelty is just as hideous. Recent evidence shows primates being gassed in warfare tests, having their brains damaged in psychology experiments and the norm being to restrain these highly social animals for hours on end, whilst depriving them of food and water. All paid for using taxes.
There is now the chance to change this. A new campaign by the Anti-Vivisection Coalition (AVC) lays down a charter to the British government, calling for all public funding to be revoked from monkey experiments and related breeding farms. AVC's has hit the headlines with a series of high-profile actions - educating the public and increasing pressure for legislation on this matter.
Luke Steele, Head of the Anti-Vivisection Coalition, will present the 'Save the Primates' talk to discuss the history of the monkey tests, how British scientists are becoming isolated as other research nation's pass legislation concerning tests on primates and what the AVC is doing to push the charter forward.
