Spring is sprung, lambs are gamboling, flowers are blooming. It must be time for the Commuter Belt Classic part 1!
The Commuter Belt Classic Part 1
10th May 2014
The Commuter Belt Classic is a 50 mile point-to-point sportive which meanders the forgotten by-ways of Hertfordshire, Essex and Epping before finishing in Hackney Downs.
Afterwards there is a cyclists special of slow-cooked lamb casserole and rice, with live music and DJs at Bohemia cafe bar, Hackney.
Below is route and elevation data as well as information about a few small changes to the arrangements for this year's event.
Registration, start times and bike transport
Like last year, we are starting at Watton-at-Stone cricket club and we are offering the same bike transport as last year for an additional £5 payable on arrival at Finsbury Park.
There will be free tea and coffee for all riders and your support team at Watton-at-stone. You will be given your rider number and timing chip when you register. We have changed our timing services provider this year, the timing chips are disposable and are triggered by riding over the start/finish matts. A seperate team will operate the finish station at Hackney Downs pavillion.
The start times are:
Watton-at-Stone Cricket Club: 9am-10:30am
There is a public car park in the village, please use this. If you do park on the street please do so with consideration.
Cycling with The Open Wheel is a socialable activity so we aim to be as flexible as possible, so if you are riding with others we can be flexible with the start times - have a conversation with Brendan when you register.
This year, the feedstation will be on the route, look out for the Routemaster bus feedstation!
The finish has moved this year to hackney Downs Pavillion in the middle of Hackney Downs. As with all Open Wheel events there will be free tea and coffee, changing rooms and a chance to de-brief with your co-riders.
We've changed the schedule for after the ride this year bringing everything forward. As we are putting in a feedstation on the course, we have organised a cyclists special at the lovely family owned Bohemia Cafe Bar on at nearby Hackney Central. There will be food, drink, music and live bands from 5pm onwards.
The Cyclist special is a turkish dish of slow-cooked lamb served with rice - £5. There is also Efes on tap.
To pre-order your Cylists special (veggie options available) simply let us know here on facebook or by emailing email@example.com
Looking forward to it!
Live music is from The Open Wheel's own Lé DiM and Yorkshire's Knuckle .
On your way around the highways and byways of Hertfordshire, keep an eye out for Laura Trott and the rest of the Womens Tour of Britain Peleton which is in the county - indeed crossing our route the afternoon.
Tickets are still available for £26 from British Cycling or www.theopenwheel.com
Looking forward to it!
Brendan, Michael and The Open Wheel team.
