“Rotait is a name that’s been thrown around in conversations and appeared on posters in the Brighton acoustic scene for many months now. ... having heard no end of raving live reviews from well established local musicians and promoters..... we were curious to know what all the fuss was about....” (Sound and Motion Magazine 27th Nov 2012)
Rotait, is a folk/rock/alternative duo consisting of Jareth Tait (vocals, guitar, drums) and Rosanna Schwarzacher (Vocals, cello, guitar). Formed in Ireland in 2009, the duo is now based in Brighton and has established itself on the local music scene. “Having only been in Brighton for over 9 months, the duo has gathered a solid following with cracking songs...” (Brighton Unsigned, August 2012)
With influences ranging from PJ Harvey to Nick Drake, and a sound closely related to the likes of The White Stripes and Radiohead, their live shows demonstrate their ability to mix many influences and to switch genres with little effort. In 2012 they released their debut album “Sleep Tonight” which received great reviews “Beautiful, soulful and whimsical.” (Brighton Unsigned, June 2012)
“They have the clear musical capability to produce something well worthy of listening to all the way through, and thoroughly enjoy” (Sound Motion Magazine 27th Nov 2012)
Rotait filmed the music video for the album's title track “Sleep Tonight” in Brussels, Belgium with the filmakers from WIKUBE.
Their 1st EP was released in 2010 shortly after which they toured Austria, France and England.
BIRTE PAULSEN (9.50pm)
Indie Folk with a dark Scandinavian twist. Dreamy melodies and beautiful harmonies combined with a sigh of Nordic melancholy.
Inspired in part by Nordic Folk, Americana and Chanson, Birte’s music is hauntingly beautiful – bitter sweet melodies with delicate yet powerful vocals whose fragility pulls the listener in and won't let them go. Rather than being afraid of darkness and melancholy, she finds a certain beauty and comfort in it and creates music that has the eccentric charm of Tom Waits combined with the subtle beauty and intensity of female vocalists such as Ane Brun, Lene Marlin or Agnes Obel.
Birte Paulsen has been making a name for herself in the South East of the UK since moving to Brighton in 2010, when she came second in The Sussex Music Awards and played Brighton Live Festival. Since then she has been very busy playing many prestigious venues, she was asked to perform at The Royal Pavillion Theatre in Brighton as part of SOURCE New Music night, supported acts such as US band Crooked Fingers and Jazz Morley and has gained new fans along the way. She is currently recording her first album to be released early next year.
FLOODING RIVERS (9.10pm)
Whisky, tales and hard times.
Flooding Rivers' music is an electrified blend of Americana, country and blues, characterised by James Bandenburg's driving bluegrass-influenced electric guitar, drenched in Wild West echoes and interspersed with bursts of distorted chaos, thumping bass guitar and powerhouse freight-train drumming. James' whisky-soaked growl tells tales of loss and redemption, trains and drinking, through Arcadian country anthems and dark and heavy blues.
"...If the Butthole Surfers had played that legendary MTV Unplugged set instead of Nirvana" - Red Eight Entertainment System
Hard times, hope and whisky. We play songs that we've written and songs that we've found.
Our recorded music can be heard at http://floodingrivers.bandcamp.com./
