TUESDAY 27TH MAY // TICKETS: http://www.seetickets.com/Event/yamantaka-sonic-titan/sticky-mikes-frog-bar/782758 // RESIDENT MUSIC (01273 606312)
YT//ST was founded in late 2007 by performance artists Alaska B and Ruby Kato Attwood, born from the ashes of the late Lesbian Fight Club.
Armed with mixed-race identities, mad illustration skills and a whole pile of home-brew junk electronics, Alaska and Ruby wrote and performed the first mini ‘Noh-Wave’ Opera, ‘YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN I’ in April 2008. YT//ST continued to perform short homebrewed operas, eventually forming a network of Asian and Indigenous artists through collaboration and formed the current YT//ST collective. The world has come to know YT//ST by their dazzling musical theatre performances in giant monochrome paper sets, sometimes in far out places, like the Montreal Eaton Centre Food Court at 2AM. Aesthetically, they blend the poorly appropriated styles of Noh, Chinese Opera, Chinese, Japanese and First Nations Mythology, Black & White Television, Psychedelia & Rock Operatics into a sensory feast of nigh-monochromatic costuming, unique hand-built musical instruments and their own mangaesque cardboard ‘NEVERFLAT’ style of 2.5D set design.
Two drummers from Brighton making new music with electronic toys and acoustic guitars.
MYYTHS is Syd S. and Tiffany S.
The pair met in Brighton, Uk, during winter 2012. brought together by a love for similar artists and each others music. A desire to work together quickly grew and after several months of songwriting collaboration, they released an Ep and started gigging as a four piece under the name Fvnerals.
In the fall of 2013, the duo started working on a side project experimenting with electronic production. MYYTHS was born. “Tystnad” was written as a whole, a journey through existence where each song forms an intricate portrait, experimenting with electronic textures, traditional instruments and percussion’s to create haunting sounds while lyrics revolve around unrequited love, nothingness and devotion.
