Summer is around the corner but with exams looming large, and Manchester's eternal grey skies sagging low over your dilapidated multiple-burgled houses, your conversation pieces are about as fun as a North Korean Bank Holiday. Bumping into people in Sainsbury’s Fallowfield is more of a chore than usual, with beads of sweat forming on your brow as you discuss the minutiae of your Dissertation. Mundane trips to the corner shop have now become your daily salvation and caffeine has become your guardian angel.
It's usually around this time of year that a catalyst for good vibrations springs up out of the Manchester Academy’s and reminds you that there can be good times...in the form of Pangaea Festival - The Summer of Love! For almost 10 years students have toasted to the end of exams at the Utopian party to end all parties. Each festival we have pushed the boat out further both in terms of our lineups and visuals to give you an experience befitting of its festival billing.
Since 2012 Pangaea has evolved with Mad Ferret Productions transforming the Academy venues with an array of light-shows, custom-built installations, festival decor and sculptures. Take a look at what went into creating The Lost City back in January…http://youtu.be/ILeZu94nJks. The student creative team also work hard to create DIY installations and artworks to finish off the decorations which make this festival so special.
As for the lineup...from elderly statesman Grandmaster Flash to German techno gods Booka Shade, to the enchanting London Grammar and the chart-toppers Clean Bandit, our lineups have grown exponentially over the years despite a certain Manchester based 50,000-person sell out show-piece taking place in the same week. This time round we've taken things bigger and better than ever before:
