ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE
“We’re just trying to open the door to the new paradigm, we haven’t walked through yet” ~Margie Gillis
The Shift is a multi-genre, immersive experience that will draw you into the transformative power of movement and the social and environmental havoc human institutions are waging on our planet and our bodies. Using video projection mappings, an intricate choreography of 4 films, 4 screens, live music and dance performances, will unfold to create a unique experiential happening. The result is a 360° empathic expression of a rapidly changing world that invites you to move towards a shift in consciousness.
The evening includes the WORLD PREMIERE of 4 short films by award-winning directors Joseph Johnson-Camí and Ayelen Liberona, featuring Margie Gillis, Canada's celebrated dance artist, also making a special event appearance. Musical performances include classical music trailblazers, Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble, performing works by composers John Oswald (TOR) and Elliott Sharpe (NYC), LAL, Toronto's progressive electronic music duo, and Balu Ballistic, Guinness Book of World Champion beat boxer.
ABOUT THE FILMS
Exploring both documentary and fiction, these 4 short films by award-winning directors Joseph Johnson-Camí and Ayelen Liberona, begin with the question, “Is another world possible?”
The first film, entitled “The Shift”, stars the celebrated dance artist Margie Gillis in a powerful portrayal of a rebellion inspiring goddess resurrected from the damaged earth. Stunning imagery shot with Walter Klassen’s camera-to-body rig technologies, allow Ms. Gillis to achieve mind bending perspectives through her choreography.
The second film, “The Shift | Documentary”, features champion beatboxer Balu Ballistic and spoken word artist True Daley, as they inspire a fearless group of teenagers to jam on the issues that deeply affect their lives - from racism to big pharma’s push to medicate their dissenting behaviours.
The third film, “The Shift | Reflections”, is a glimpse into Margie Gillis’ own poignant reflections on society’s need for an empathic and embodied connection to the world. This candid conversation with Margie Gillis is interwoven with fascinating camera-to-body footage.
The fourth film, “The Shift: Tiny Mirrors”, is a music video collaboration with the shape-shifting electronic music duo that is LAL as we re-imagine our perceptions of love, loss and change.
The movement of a people must begin with movement within oneself.
