A 4-Day dance and music intensive at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort nestled in the beautiful Colorado Rockies! Welcoming dancers and musicians of all levels!
November 5-9 (for dancers) and November 7-9 (for musicians), 2014 (Mount Princeton, Colorado)
Don’t miss this incredible all-inclusive opportunity to study with Sadie and featured guest artists Eva Cernik and Rachid Halihal. Fully immerse yourself in the experience of Middle Eastern music and dance among the relaxing setting of the Colorado Rockies at the Mt. Princeton natural hot springs pools and spa! Fresh air, organic vegetarian food, and the healing benefits of dance and music! We are also very pleased to tell you that you can bring your family with you to enjoy the resort too!
This intensive retreat will include:
-23 hours of workshops with Sadie & Eva Cernik for dancers
- 8 hours of workshops with Rachid Halihal for musicians
-Sadie’s Bellydance Certification Program upon completion of the curriculum
-4 night/5 day stay (2 nights / 3 days for musicians) vegetarian, local and organic meals included in an amazing hot-springs resort. Plus the option to stay for extra days and enjoy the resort
-Live music classes for dancers and musicians featuring Rachid Halihal & David Hinojosa.
-Friday night Hafla featuring performances by participants of the retreat from all around the world. After party dancing and much more!
- Saturday night concert featuring Rachid Halihal and special guests. Special performances by participants, Sadie, Eva and other featured guest artists.
-Performance opportunities for interested participants. (first come first serve basis, only 25 spots available)
-This retreat is open for high beginners to advanced professional dancers.

Thursday Nov. 6
9:15-9:30am: Pavilion announcements and introduction
9:30-12:30pm: Workshops with Sadie & David “Live Drum Solo technique and drills” In depth analysis of the sounds, rhythms and patterns created by the percussive instruments and how to place them on the body in both the Raks Sharqi method as well as Sadie’s method.
1:45-3:45pm: Workshops with Sadie & David “Live Drum Solo Choreogarphy Part I” (All students are invited to perform this choreography with Sadie and David in the Saturday Gala. It is optional, not mandatory)
4:00-6:00pm: Workshops with Sadie & David “Live Drum Solo Choreogarphy Part II”
7:00-10:00pm: Hot springs soak and relax
Friday Nov. 7
9:30-12:30pm: Workshops with Sadie “Belly Works” An exploration of intricate abdominal work, creating seamless rolls, undulations, transitions and stunning layers. Combos and fancy foot patterns will be incorporated.
1:45-3:45pm Workshops with Rachid and Eva “Musicality” Interactive workshop that will teach you how to hear the music as both a musician and a dancer. Rachid reveals musical cues, modes, phrasing, and meaning in the melody and words of songs we dance to. Tap into the depth and emotional array of Middle Eastern music and the Maqam. Rachid says: "Learn how to sing with your body..."
4:00-6:00pm: Workshops with Sadie “Stage Secrets” Equip yourself with the secrets of the stage used by the worlds top performers! Clearly covey your emotions and set a mood, reach your audience, exchange energy, learn about your most powerful tools for accomplishing these tasks…..
6:00-9:00pm: free time at the hot springs and getting ready for the Hafla

Saturday Nov. 8
9:30-10:30am: “Sunrise stretch with Sadie” ~ for dancers & Musicians
10:30-12:30pm: Workshops with Sadie “Oriental Diva Part I” ~ Technique, Musicality, and Feeling (Tarab). Enter the elegant and enchanting world of Oriental style dance. Building upon many of the concepts and techniques of earlier workshops you will now begin putting it all together. We will tap into the concept of Tarab as we explore enthralling pieces of Egyptian music with powerful yet, elegant Oriental style techniques and combos.
1:45-3:45 Workshops with Eva “Khaleegi” Women's Dance of The Arabian Gulf. Traditional hypnotic head and hair movements, gestures, fun foot patterns and floor formations, and more contemporary hip accents to an infectious Khaleegi rhythm. (All students are invited to perform this choreography with Eva to live music in the Saturday Gala. It is optional, not mandatory)
4:00-6:00pm: Workshops with Sadie “Oriental Diva Part II” A guided exploration of movement and choreography to the beautiful Egyptain classic Daret Al Ayam by Oum Kalthoum. Dynamic poses, lyrical spins and turns, rhythmic shimmies and staccato body isolations. The complexity of the music will allow you to tap into and express an array of poetic movement and emotion.
6:00-9:00pm: free time and getting ready
9:00-11:00pm: Dinner Gala and Show with live music ensemble, performances and more!

10:00-12:00pm: Workshops with Eva “Vintage Turkish Style Oriental Dance” ~ Istanbul classical. Technique and combinations of moves. Please do bring zils, if you play them (optional)
