PHOTONIC MOMENTS - MONTH OF PHOTOGRAPHY 2014
7th festival of contemporary photography in Ljubljana

29 May - 30 June 2014

(slovenska verzija je spodaj!)

www.photonicmoments.net

This June, the seventh edition of the biennial festival of contemporary photography PHOTONIC MOMENTS Festival – MONTH OF PHOTOGRAPHY, based mainly in Ljubljana, will offer a series of photo exhibitions, screenings, actions, lectures and discussions.

The festival opens on Thursday 29 May 2014 within the Kult3000 Gallery with the exhibition 'Zipped Worlds: Photography in Public Domain', and in the Slovene Ethnographic Museum with the exhibitions 'A Balkan Tale' and 'Synergies of Sarajevo' by Bojan Brecelj.

The main topic of this year's festival is 'photography in public spaces', particularly highlighting those photographic and art practices whose subject matter reflects a close relationship with various phenomena relating to public spaces and the public sphere. The central exhibition 'Zipped Worlds', produced in collaboration with international partners, explores new concepts of the ‘public’ and ‘private’ delivered through the actual use of photographic images.

In tune with the festival's main topic, particular attention will be given to accompanying events. Currently there are three ‘open calls’ targeted at photographers/artists who would like to participate in the festival:
- Evening Projections, 2-6 June at ZRC Atrium / LP Bar
- Portfolio Review, 6-7 June at Galerija Jakopič
- Remains of the City + Photo Emona, 1-30 June Jakopič promenade (outdoor location)

for more information about the open calls follow the link:

The Photonic Moments Festival delivers an insight into local, regional and international trends in contemporary photography. In addition to the central exhibition, 'Zipped Worlds', we would like to draw attention to the group exhibition 'distURBANces' (MGLC), which is the result of a curatorial collaboration within the European Month of Photography network of which the Photon (Photonic Moments Festival) is a member. The exhibition 'distURBANces' presents artistic viewpoints offering a brand-new vision of the urban, technological and political development of contemporary society.

Other exhibitions include A Balkan Tale (SEM), a solo exhibition from the Austrian collective G.R.A.M. (Photon - Centre for Contemporary Photography) and the exhibition of Dutch photographer Dik Bouwhuis (Atrium ZRC).
The festival also joins in the celebration of the 200th birth and 150th death anniversaries of Slovene photographic pioneer and inventor of photography on glass - Janez Puhar, by hosting the exhibition 'From Puhar to Marenčič' organised in collaboration with the Gorenjski muzej.

As to retrospectives, we would like to make special mention of an exhibition of the work of Josef Koudelka one-time member of the famous Magnum Agency showing in the Jakopič Gallery, and a research exhibition 'Light as Colour' (MAO | Muzej za arhitekturo in oblikovanje).
Once again this year's festival in particular addresses the projects and artists from Central and South-Eastern Europe, who remain our main focus and mission. Further to two group exhibitions - 'Inside-Out' (DLUL) and 'Fotomorgana 3' (Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture), solo exhibitions will show work from: Bojan Salaj (National Gallery), Darije Petković (Magistrat), Nina Đurđević (Cankarjev dom), Patricija Stepanovic (Galerija Alkatraz), Zdzislaw Pacholski (SVC-Galerija), Bojan Brecelj (SEM), Dušan Šarotar (Trubarjeva Hisa Dogodki), Matjaz Rust (Bi Ko Fe), Katja Goljat & Andrej Firm (Galerija Prostor), Nika Rupnik (Kino Šiška) and Vangelis Georgas (Mikado), winner of the Photonic Moments 2012 Portfolio Review.
The festival programme will also include two final exhibitions by two leading faculties in the field of photography – VIST - Oddelek za fotografijo / Photography department (Higher School of Applied Sciences) and Aluo: Oblikovanje (Academy of Fine Arts and Design).

This year, Photonic Moments will be joined by the Video In Progress festival, an international video manifestation curated by the Zavod Kolektiva (selectors Vesna Bukovec and Metka Zupanič). 'Video in Progress # 5' entitled 'Reflections of the Past' will be shown in Kino Šiška and ZRC Atrium through a number of screenings.

You can be kept informed about the programme and activities and find all the latest news on the festival's website www.photonicmoments.net.

FOTONIČNI TRENUTKI - MESEC FOTOGRAFIJE 2014
7. festival sodobne fotografije v Ljubljani

29. maj - 30. junij 2014

www.photonicmoments.net

- Večerne projekcije, 2.-6. junij v Atriju ZRC / LP baru
- Portfolio Review, 6. in 7. junij v Galeriji Jakopič / Muzej in galerije mesta Ljubljane
- Ostanki mesta + Foto Emona, 1.-30. junij v Jakopičevem sprehajališču in na Krakovskem nasipu

Festival Fotonični trenutki prinaša vpogled v lokalne, regionalne in mednarodne tendence sodobne fotografije. (Photon) in razstava Nizozemca Dika Bouwhuisa (Atrij ZRC).
