Forty-six activists killed by neo-Nazis in Odessa. Twenty civilians killed in Mariupol by fascists in the uniform of Ukraine’s “National Guard.” Governor of Kherson Yuri Odarchenko publicly calls Hitler the “liberator of Ukraine.”
The Kiev junta issues arrests warrants for anti-fascist leaders and again threatens to ban the Communist Party. The European Union imposes new sanctions on Russia. U.S. and NATO troops engage in their largest-ever war games, in Latvia.
Washington and the Kiev coup regime continue their march to war against Russia and the anti-fascist resistance in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the U.S. government continues to arm and train Syrian contras in an effort to disrupt the upcoming national elections there. It continues to plot with the racist oligarchy of Venezuela that seeks to undo Venezuela's popular Bolivarian Revolution. U.S. and British troops are embedded in oil-rich Nigeria under cover of saving children -- while paying for Israel to murder Palestinian children.
Voters in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions overwhelmingly voted for independence from the junta on May 11. People there are arming themselves, building barricades, and staffing checkpoints. In other areas, people are also organizing to defend their communities – but are increasingly forced to do so underground or risk arrest, or worse. Still, veterans, workers, youth and students came out defiantly to celebrate the anniversary of victory over Hitler on May 9.
The U.S. and EU are responsible for the neoliberal, fascist-dominated coup against the elected government of Ukraine. U.S. officials holding the purse strings are responsible for unleashing fascist terror against the people. Washington, Wall Street and Big Oil want nothing less than total domination of Eastern Europe and the strangling of independent Russia.
The people of southeast Ukraine are fighting back. Now it is time for the anti-war movement in this country to take a stand. We must act to stop the horrifying onslaught of violence unleashed on the people of Ukraine by the U.S. government and the big business interests it serves. We must not allow Wall Street, Congress and the White House to continue the buildup for war against Russia.
