LUMEN 2014 is a video and performance art festival featuring site-specific projections, new media, installations, and performance art by an international group of over 40 artists.
Making use of Staten Island’s under-utilized waterfront and returning to the site that launched its first iteration, LUMEN will be held at Atlantic Salt, a company that supplies road salt to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
561 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301, about a 10 minute bus or train ride via public transportation from the SI ferry terminal. It is also an 8 minute bike ride or 15-20 minute walk from the St. George Ferry Terminal in downtown Staten Island.
LUMEN 2014 will feature video installations, new media projections, animation, performance art, art interventions, and sound art, curated by David C. Terry and Esther Neff. Terry is the Director of Programs/Curator at the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) where he oversees the Fellowships, Curatorial, Sponsorship and Professional Development Programs while Neff is an artist, curator, theorist and founder of the Panoply Performance Laboratory (PPL), which is a performance space in Bushwick, a flexible collective, and the moniker for her collaborative performance work with Brian McCorkle.
Atlantic Salt Company, along with Mr. Terry & Ms. Neff, will transform the raw waterfront property into a luminous playground, equipped with cargo containers that have been turned into video screening rooms, and specially formed salt sculptures that will be used as projection screens and installation pieces. Over 3,000 people attended LUMEN 2013, and we are excited to celebrate this year with our friends from over the past five years!
