Building a reputation as a go-for-broke live act, The Mantras have been playing to consistently larger crowds all over the East coast and Midwest. Steadily building a following both regionally and nationally with music that is a high-energy collaborative of funk-rock, middle-eastern, electronica, and metal; The Mantras’ music is sure to shake your knees and rattle your toes. All of this is combined with the amazing and awe inspiring 3D projections of VIDEOmetry to make The Mantras one of the hottest tickets touring today.
The Mantras’ fourth studio release, Jambands Ruined My Life, is a snapshot of a band on the rise. Recorded almost a year ago, Jambands Ruined My Life captures The Mantras in the middle of their growth into the progressive powerhouse that is touring the country today. Jambands Ruined My Life shows The Mantras’ ability to play with funk and jazz improvisation, live electronica, Middle Eastern, and progressive rock and blend it all seamlessly into the band’s funky, energetic, and confident sound.
‘Jambands Ruined My Life’ allows the listener to hear the honesty of artists experiencing life and all it brings, expected or not. With Jambands Ruined My Life, The Mantras have taken these experiences and turned them into emotional, heartfelt music. The Mantras set out to release an album that is tight and expertly produced, while also showcasing the human side of music. This is something that is getting harder to come by, as computers appear to increasingly take over the music industry. For fans of bands that have made performing on their instruments a central part of their sound, this album leaves the listener relieved that improvisational, progressive rock with minimal computer automation is alive and well in America.
Jambands Ruined My Life was recorded and produced at Jake Cinninger’s (Umphrey’s McGee) Boondock Studios in Michigan by the band’s full time sound engineer Matt Gordon, with help from Jake as a guest producer and engineer. Jake is also a featured guitarist on ‘Kinetic Bump’ and ‘House of Cards’. Download your name-your-price copy today at www.the-mantras.bandcamp.com
PIGEONS PLAYING PING PONG
Baltimore, MD -- FUNK-ROCK-JAM-ELECTRONIC
Funk, Rock, Electric ENERGY: These four Pigeons bring it every night. Based out of Baltimore, MD, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong has an undeniably unique and versatile live sound that ascends peaks of musical ecstasy. Their evolving arrangement of original compositions, psychedelic improvisational jams, and contagious smiles have ‘The Flock’– their self-identifying fanbase that stretches from coast-to-coast– coming back for more. One of the fastest growing emerging artists in the jam and festival scene these days, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong is here to bring the party with their danceable electro-funk grooves and infectious ability to bring positive energy to any environment.
Having launched their East Coast buzz from very successful weekly residencies at The 8×10 in Baltimore, high profile festival spots including Catskill Chill, The Werk Out, Camp Barefoot, Wormtown Music Festival and others have put the memorable band name on the lips of music lovers and groove nuts. As a result, the grass roots response to the more than 200 shows the band played in 2013 was remarkable, with significant audiences showing up for first time plays in new markets from Colorado to Florida.
As Pigeons continue to expand their touring they continue to grow their Flock and expand people’s minds (musically…). Whether it be at a major festival or your local rock club, Pigeons will show you a good time. Get ready for some fun…
Ultraviolet Hippopotamus is an explosive five-piece progressive improvisational band with a rapidly growing fan base across the U.S. and, more recently, Europe. Described as “brightening the future of the jam band scene,” Ultraviolet Hippopotamus mixes tight, funky jams with new dance beats, heartfelt lyrics, compelling composition, eccentric effects and a vibrant light show for an incredible, one-of-a-kind musical experience. Known for its on-stage musical alchemy – cultivated from years of relentless touring – the band performs an eclectic selection of technically demanding compositions and improvised material along with unconventional and fun covers.
The group deftly journeys between funk, jazz, livetronica, space rock, reggae, bluegrass, and progressive rock within a single show and, sometimes, within a single song. Exploring new ground and taking risks make every performance unique, and fans are never sure what exactly the band will deliver each night; other than exceptional music.
Anyone remotely familiar with the ‘jam band sound’ will immediately recognize Ultraviolet Hippopotamus’ influences and genre-mixing musical objectives, but the band adds a level of talent, intricacy and polish that truly sets it apart. Tight, energetic jams and outstanding vocals — a true rarity among the band’s peers — coupled with the act’s spontaneity and strong songwriting add to its appeal. The word is out, and the band is quickly developing into an international sensation.
Ultraviolet Hippopotamus’ highly praised third album, “Square Pegs, Round Holes,” reached No. 3 and spent much of the year in the top 25 of the Relix Magazine/Jambands.com National Radio Chart and was voted “2011 Studio Album of the Year” at the Home Grown Music Network. It also received similar nominations from several radio programs, among other acclaim. The album continues to sell steadily and receives airplay across the U.S. as well as internationally in Italy, Brazil, France, Switzerland, England, Spain, Germany and other countries.
