Saltwater Festival was created to provide New Jersey and the East Coast with the best offerings in Surf, Film and Art. An ambitious and remarkable lineup of artists, shapers, photographers and vendors headline the event, which shines a light on all the amazing men and women who inspire greatness and promote a positive reflection of what a surfer is, and can be. The theme of this year’s event is informally “East Meets West,” with some of the best creative spirits from both coasts involved.
DAY 1: Friday, June 27 – Doors at 6 p.m.; Film at 8 p.m.
Director Catherine Brabec and her film “A Life Outside” will premier inside the Algonquin theatre with a Red Carpet extravaganza including the East Coast Premiere of Joshua Paskowitz’s traveling art show “The Paskowitz Experience” in the Victoria J. Mastrobuono Studio. Doc Paskowitz, one of the 10 most influential surfers of all time, will be on hand to sign his book. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the art show, the film starts at 8 p.m. and the after party will continue after the film concludes. Live
About the Film “A Life Outside” centers around the surfers who pioneered surfing Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, N.J. It features some of the best surfers to ever come from N.J., as well as a number of international legends as well. Following Hurricane Sandy, a highly publicized Kickstarter campaign was launched in order to provide funding to shoot the aftermath, which now featured so heavily in the story. The Surfers featured, as well as their social media campaign, has made the film extraordinarily anticipated on the shore. The filmmaker is currently making the film festival rounds and we are hopeful that the buzz will only continue to rise as the event nears.
About “The Paskowitz Experience”
Joshua is a world renowned artist and musician and a member of the “The First Family of Surfing,” the Paskowitz’s. Joshua creates outstanding surf inspired paintings influenced by his unique upbringing which brought him into the company of some of the most influential surfers of all time. Joshua will be accompanied by his Father Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz. “Doc” is a legendary character known across the world for his alternative lifestyle and his prosaic wisdom. A feature documentary was made on the family called “Surfwise”, and Doc will be on hand to chat with guests and sign copies of his book “Surfing and Health.”
