The Button Factory, Dublin 2
Diamond Version is a collaborative project between two of the most groundbreaking, experimental and forward thinking creators in modern music, Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto) and Olaf Bender (Byetone).
As artists and joint heads of the Raster-Noton label, they have been releasing work that spectacularly blurs the lines between the visceral and the conceptual, bridging the gap between gallery and dancefloor.
The Irish premiere of this post-techno audio/visual show will be held in The Button Factory on Saturday May 24th, where they will perform on their debut album launch tour.
This debut album called CI (which stands for Corporate Identity), follows on from a series of five 12″ singles released through Mute. It is the culmination of nearly three years of hard work which began when Raster-Noton and Mute both curated the 2011 Short Circuit Festival of electronic music at the Roundhouse in Camden, London.
CI pairs blistering electronic rhythms, deconstructed techno and dread static with clipped slogans borrowed from advertising and marketing, in both lyrics and track titles such as ‘Science For A Better Life‘, ‘Access To Excellence‘ and ’Raising The Bar‘.
They have also agreed to DJ until the end of the night, making this a rare opportunity to catch the Raster Noton chiefs keep the floor moving until close with their favourite selections.
In conversation about their music and visual work
A talk will be held earlier in the evening to discuss their music and visual work in the Goethe Institut, 37 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
This talk will be presented by Bernard Clarke (Nova, Lyric FM) and will begin at 7pm.
**Advance booking is required to attend this talk at the eventbrite link above**
We are also delighted to host the debut Irish show for our boy John Flynn's S_P_A_C_E_S project.
Previously of the Dublin based group SOLEN, John now lives in London and has been carving out some of the most innovative music we have heard in recent years. We aren't the only ones to think that neither! In 2012 he was selected for Bleep / Warp's unsigned FILTERED compilation out of over 4000 entrants. His sound really is unlike anything else - check it out here:
The entire event is a co – production organised by two of Ireland’s most renowned music collectives – Electric Underground and !Kaboogie.
