Winter Yoga Retreat in the Dominican Republic with Steph Schwartz and Mike Cohen

Steph Schwartz and Mike Cohen invite you to the Dominican Republic for a tropical Yoga and Kirtan Retreat so you can enliven your winter and deepen your practice.

Held at the beautiful and quaint Hotel La Catalina, you will experience spectacular beaches, two daily yoga classes with live music, delectable food, waterfall hikes, bonfire Kirtan events and optional surf lessons, scuba diving, snorkeling, golf and/or horseback riding. This exotic and affordable retreat will heat up your winter.

Steph and Mike create a safe and supportive space for you to take your yoga practice deeper with energizing and relaxing yoga classes each day.

All participants can choose to receive one free private yoga session, leadership coaching session or Kirtan lesson. Refresh, renew and refine your skills on and off the mat.

Enhance your retreat experience with spa treatments (retreat participants receive a 10% discount), surfing classes, horseback riding, scuba diving, snorkeling and golfing.

Tour organic garden (pick and eat as you choose!) and/or Catalina D.R. Foundation and the Hotel’s work in the local, rural community (optional and at no additional cost).

Participants will receive 3 full meals each day (fish, chicken or vegetarian). Please let us know your dietary needs in advance so the hotel can accommodate them. Enjoy the on-site organic garden, homemade breads and juices and phenomenal local seafood.

At La Catalina, dining is a priority. The Dominican chef has spent more than 10 years working with renowned French chef Rémi Rondot. The chef and his staff are dedicated to providing you with a quality dining experience. Many of the fresh fruits, vegetables and spices are grown on-site in the organic garden or are produced locally.

The newly remodeled 750 sq foot studio sits on 4 acres of tropical gardens with large floor-to-ceiling windows so yogis feel immersed in nature. Complete with a surround-sound system and mats, the studio is ready for practice.

Passports required for international travel. Travel days are Saturday, February 21 and Saturday, February 28 into Puerto Plata Airport (POP). Transfer from/to the airport is included in registration fee ONLY for those flying into POP on designated arrival and departure dates. Please arrive at POP before 4pm on Saturday, February 21 and depart before 12pm on Saturday, February 28. Those who choose to travel into another airport - Santo Domingo (SDQ) or Santiago (STI) - or arrive at POP after the designated times, must pay for their own taxi to the hotel (travel time is 1.5 hours and cost is $150 each way).

Here's how this works. First, you invite a buddy to join you on this retreat and share a room. Second, you both pay in full by October 15. Third, each person receives a $150 discount.

Cancellations made up to 60 days prior to the retreat (December 21) will receive a full refund less $500 deposit non-refundable / non-transferable. After December 21, 2014, registration fees are non-refundable / non-transferable.

Steph Schwartz loves connecting people to their AWEsomeness through dynamic yoga flows and heart-opening chanting. She discovered Ashtanga yoga in 1999 while training for ultra marathons in Boulder, CO.

In 2006 Steph completed her 200 hour teaching training with CorePower Yoga. In 2009 she completed Janet Stone's 80 hour vinyasa teacher training. Since 2007, Steph has opened and managed three studios and led or co-led dozens of Yoga Alliance certified teacher trainings. She currently leads the 200 hour Yoga Alliance certified teacher training at Yoga Loft in Boulder, CO. In 2013 Steph received training from Mike Cohen on Somatics and the Art of Teaching Yoga. She has studied with Mike Cohen at the Dattatreya Kirtan Institute since 2011, writing original chants, building community and coaching Kirtan Leaders.

Steph's classes are creative, fun and challenging, with a focus on breath and alignment. Heart opening chanting allows her students to connect their hearts with the Heart of the Divine.

Off the mat you will find the ever-adventurous Steph leading Kirtan events, on the trails with her dog Boogie Woogie, or jumping out of airplanes!

Mike Cohen helps people bring more of themselves to their world. An accomplished Kirtan Artist and Certified Master Somatic Coach, Mike has coached and trained thousands of clients in corporate, yoga studio and public program environments since 2002. He helps leaders, Kirtan Leaders and Yoga Teachers build skill and remove obstacles to serve their communities with greater love and depth. His innovative Somatics programs are guiding yoga teachers into their own depth so they can masterfully serve their students.

Through his Dattatreya Kirtan Institute (DKI), Mike has trained dozens of Kirtan Leaders since 2010 with a proven methodology based around three relevant domains of leading Kirtan – Musicianship, Embodied Leadership and Dattatreya Spirituality. The lives of DKI students unfold as they develop, producing Kirtan Leaders who are successful in the world, deep in their spirituality and skilled in serving others through this incredible spiritual practice.

DKI students have learned to serve others by sharing the experience of Kirtan, leading their band, growing their communities, writing original chants, playing at major Kirtan/Yoga festivals, completing Kirtan albums and much more.
