Bass-Fest 2014 is an exciting international celebration of the double bass and will include a full programme of workshops and concerts. Directed by David Heyes, Bass-Fest is open to bassists of all ages and abilities and there will be many performance opportunities including technique sessions, massed orchestra and masterclasses, alongside the possibility to study new repertoire in a friendly. welcoming, relaxed and informal environment.
Master luthier Martin Penning will give a talk about bass making and repairs and participants are welcome to 'ask the expert'.
Bass-Fest 2014 will feature a number of informal concerts, celebrating a wide range of solo and ensemble repertoire, and will be an opportunity to hear and perform works from throughout centuries and in many styles and idioms. Bass-Fest 2014 will include works by our three Featured Composers John Alexander (UK) and Sadie Harrison (Australia), Simon Garcia (Spain) - and all three composers will be in attendance.
Double bass quartets have been commissioned from John Alexander, Sadie Harrison and Simon Garcia with funds kindly supplied by bassists and supporters across Britain.

Sunday 7.30pm - Closing Concert to fearure Massed Bass Orchestra and the International Faculty.
FEES: ADULT - £45.00 per day or £115.00 for 3 days
[Fees include one private 30 minute lesson with a tutor of your choice and extra lessons are available at £10.00 per 30 minute lesson]
CHILD/STUDENT - £30.00 per day or £75.00 for 3 days
JUNIOR BASSES - a one-day workshop aimed at young bassists will be on Sunday 17 August 2014. More advanced young bassists are welcome to attend the entire three days by agreement with the Director.
Morning coffee and afternoon tea are included in the fee but not lunch. A buffet lunch costing £5.00 per person per day is bookable in advance.

The Silk Mill is in the very heart of Frome, which a beautiful and historic market town at the foot of the Mendip hills and many pubs, restaurants and cafes within a few minutes walk.

TRAVEL: There is a direct train link from London to Westbury or Frome and we are able to meet bassists and drive them to the Silk Mill.The Silk Mill is in the very heart of Frome, a beautiful and historic market town at the foot of the Mendip hills, and has many pubs, restaurants and cafes within a few minutes walk.
PARKING: At present there is no parking at the Silk Mill but there are car parks quite close by and the one in Merchant's Barton (2 minutes walk) charges £3.40 per day.
