Details: Participants will go through the complete process of designing and implementing a permaculture plan. Learn the concepts of sustainable living and improved self-reliance and attain hands on experience in designing and implementing permaculture through Distant Relatives Ecoldge’s Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) Course, nestled between the Giriama village of Fumbini and the beautiful emerald waters of Kilifi Creek on the stunning Kenyan Coast. Join qualified permaculture trainer from Zimbabwe, Tichafa Makovere who has done incredible work in schools, lodges and Permaculture Training Centers around Southern Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Ethiopia and further abroad. One of Tichafa’s s specialties has been to establish permaculture gardens in schools, influencing the coming generation to shift away from the mentality of dependence on aid towards self-sufficiency.
The course will cover all aspects of Permaculture Design, with topics ranging from water harvesting and conservation, soil fertility management, creating productive, resilient and biodiverse food systems, appropriate technology systems, sustainable farming and household gardening for self-reliance, natural regeneration and food forests soil and water management including composting and swale design, aquaculture. Some facets will be emphasized depending on students’ particular interests as well as specific site needs identified throughout the course. Some hands-on permaculture work in a local school may become part of the course. Participants will also be taught how to cut and sand glass, transforming wine bottles into drinking glasses, as well as how to build excellent compost toilet systems.

Cost: 400 USD for course fees only, not including accommodation, food or transport. This fee is based on a minimum of 10 participants. If more participants sign up, this price may be reduced significantly.
A self-catering communal kitchen will be available to all participants.
For those able to provide their own accommodation and food, only course fees will apply. For those requiring food and/or accommodation, Distant Relatives Ecolodge will offer accommodation and food from its restaurant to suit all budgets (from camping to ensuite private rooms).
