YAHTZEL (DJ SET)
21-year-old Max Armata AKA Yahtzel emerged amongst a fresh and elite wave of Australian producers currently innovating electronic music’s indie dance scene.
His debut single ‘Girls’ was featured in Flume’s BBC6 Radio mix and went on to rack up 375,000 streaming plays between Soundcloud and indie YouTube channel Majestic Casual.
Yahtzel’s massive follow-up single ‘High With Me’ harvested over 2.7 million plays and was named one of Inthemix’s Top Tracks of 2013. Its phenomenal success sent Yahtzel on a 26-show Australasian tour, with stops at an array of major Australian festivals, including Listen Out and Stereosonic. Yahtzel became a regular festival feature on the back of his chilled out crowd favourite ‘Jungle Feels’, performing DJ sets at Field Day NYD and Future Music Festival.
Yahtzel has since received a lot of love on Triple J Radio, contributing a Mix-Up Exclusive for Nina Las Vegas as well as a Friday Afternoon mix for Lewi McKirdy.
With a new single entitled ‘The Only One’, a collaborative effort with L D R U on Future Classic Records and an upcoming studio EP in the works, Yahtzel continues to prove why he is one of 2014’s artists to watch.
Constructing rich soundscapes and crafting remixes for Ben Pearce, RÜFÜS, Shapeshifter, Snakadaktal and MØ, Kilter infuses each track with deft precision; be it summer vibes courtesy of bouncing steel drums, nods to his hip-hop influences or pounding militaristic drumbeats. These remixes, and his debut EP Hold Me, have seen Kilter gain traction from the blogosphere and industry, nailing a number 1 spot on Hypemachine, while also securing positions on Spotify’s ‘Spotlight on 2014’, Hillydilly’s ‘Best Remixes of 2013’ and Inthemix’s ‘New Breed of Producers To Watch’ lists. He has also garnered attention from the likes of BBC Radio 1's B. Traits, Toddla T, and EDM stalwarts like M.A.N.D.Y and X-Press 2.
2013 saw Kilter tour Australia alongside Shapeshifter, followed by a 13-date tour in support his debut EP Hold Me, and 2014 is already turning out to be already equally as exciting. Kilter kicked off the new year in his best form, playing Field Day, followed by a tour around the country alongside remix buddies Snakadaktal. Next up he sets out for a tour of sold-out shows supporting Kite String Tangle, playing Red Bull’s No Noise Nightclub for Big Day Out and has a remix of melodic pop wizards London Grammar on the horizon. Either way you look at it this young producer’s name is reverberating across the country for good reasons.
