Monika Smerdel: Paintings
Monika Smerdel, nee Monia, is a third generation visual artist born in Lublin, Poland, in 1979. She immigrated to the US as a refugee of the Solidarity movement during childhood. As a young woman, she began her nascent career by exploring different mediums in pursuit of expression, finally focusing her vision on large-scale paintings.
In her own words:
"As an artist I paint by applying abstractions; I create intense personal movements and moments by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal. I lure the viewer to explore.
Referencing nature via fluidity, I invite observers to interact with each piece through their own emotional spectacles. The intended result is deconstruction: meaning is shifted and possible interpretations become multifaceted."
This is the largest exhibition of Monika's paintings to date.
