This is Chrys Grummert’s second solo show with G Gallery. In this series, he has focused on a process of making as the structure in which he explores his love of color in a painterly fashion. Layers of color are laid down, one on top of the other, each ending just shy of the edge of the underneath layer. Several paintings are created consecutively, visually connecting each with the one before and the one after through the order of color. They are all at once delightfully colorful, optical, reductive and casual.
Chrys Grummert was born in Lincoln, NE. He earned his BFA and MFA from Otis College of Art and Design. Currently his work can be viewed throughout 2014 at Austin City Hall’s 2014 People’s Gallery 10th Anniversary Exhibition. Pieces were included in the San Antonio Painter’s 2 show at the Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, TX, curated by Barbara MacAdam, Deputy Editor of ArtNews magazine. His video project Lava was viewed at the celebration for MoMA’s Abstract Currents show. Grummert’s art was selected for the Texas National 2012, curated by critic and author Dave Hickey.
