Join us at Aye-Aye Books for a book launch by visual artist, musician and writer Sybren Renema.
Ginsberg is in the Bronco War / Nuclear Physics is a work of found-footage cyber-beatnik poetry, created by transcribing faulty YouTube subtitles taken from an interview with Salvador Dali and presenting these as poems.
Dali's thick Spanish accent was incomprehensible to YouTube's subtitle software, thus generating completely random answers that sounded surprisingly deep and insightful. The computerised Dali discusses everything from mushrooms and manatees to Mike Tyson, in a manner suspended between surrealism, cybernetics and the beat generation. He even name-cheks Allen Ginsberg, author of Howl, adding plausibility to the theory that what we have here is accidental computer-generated concrete poetry for the 21st century.
The launch will include a short reading from the book by Sybren Renema, accompanied by double bass player Lewis Gilmour. Copies of the publication, limited to an edition of 70, can be purchased during the launch for £5.
