Exhibition opening ÄÄREPEALT / FAST (Ivar Kaasik) & Drawing performance (Björn Koop, Jaanika Peerna)

Jää-äär Berlin Brunnenstraße 56, Berlino, Germania

Exhibition of Paintings
June 3 – July 4, 2014

Ivar Kaasik exhibits 10 red abstract paintings which harmonize with the space's interior. The artist is presenting them using a chaotic-decorative manner to achieve a good effect.

20.00- 21.00 Björn Koop and Jaanika Peerna
drawing performance on the gallery's three large windows

sound by Hannaliisa Uusma

Two artists will be creating a dynamic window drawing using tape and a mysterious white substance. Björn's skillfully applied sharp-edged tape lines will merge with Jaanika's organic flow lines which seem to oscillate around invisible centers while Hannaliisa plays rhythms that cut into the auditory world around it all. The drawing process can be observed both from inside and outside of the gallery space.

Björn is an Estonian car designer living and working in Frankfurt. Influenced by classical car design tape-drawings he has adopted the technique of making art installations and tape-paintings on canvas. He has exhibited in Vaal Gallery in Estonia and has created backgrounds for German fashion photographer Sandra Mika.

Jaanika Peerna is an Estonian born interdisciplinary artist who has lived in NY since 1998 and is currently based in
Berlin for one year. Her work often deals with transitions in natural phenomena using drawing, installation, video and
performance. Her video installation is currently included in a group show at WieKultur Berlin, and her solo exhibition is on view at Rimini Drawing Biennial, Italy.

Hannaliisa Uusma is an Estonian musician and sociologist of culture and music. Her academic work examines
masculinities and popular music in post-Soviet space. Since 2007 she is also a singer of Estonian pop-electro band HU? which was awarded the best local pop album in 2013 and the best Estonian band in 2009 by the Estonian Music awards. Every other month she plays her favorite electronic music in a small indie disco called Virmalised (Polar lights) in cafe MustPuudel (Black Poodle) in Tallinn, Estonia.
