Funkdafied are proud to announce that Cookin on 3 Burners will be returning to Sydney for a special show at the Basement on the 11th July.
Joining this 3 piece Funk Powerhouse will be Kylie Auldist and Tex Perkins for the launch of the new album 'Blind Bet' on Freestyle Records. DJs in support on the night will be Huwston and JC, (Funkdafied).
If you haven't seen Cookin on 3 Burners live before then you are in for a real treat. Formed in 1997, Cookin’ On 3 Burners was always meant to be an experiment in sound. Drenched in the bluesy soulful influence of the late 60s and early 70s output of labels such as Prestige, Bluenote & Groove Merchant, these Melbourne music stalwarts began serving up a feast of tasty funk on a bed of Hammond soul, creating a flavour that gets better with every lick of the spoon.
In 2002 they released their first 7” single (Gravel Rash / Pie Warmer) under the Bamboo Shack label and by the summer of 2009, the band was number 1 on the UK iTunes RnB charts with the track This Girl (featuring Kylie Auldist). In between, Cookin’ On 3 Burners, made their home at esteemed U.K label Freestyle Records, rocked the B-Boy and B-Girl championships, had songs featured on a string of hit TV shows and played alongside acts such as Quantic, Alice Russell, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and Fat Freddie’s Drop.
And the heat just keeps on rising.
Six albums in and their new album Blind Bet more than delivers. Described as ‘classic soul sounds with a modern cinematic twist’, it features beautiful string and horn arrangements by Ross Irwin and special guest vocalists Daniel Merriweather, Tex Perkins, Kylie Auldist, Harry James Angus (Cat Empire) and Jason Heerah (Electric Empire).
Joining Cookin on 3 Burners for this show will be Tex Perkins who is widely known for heading up the rock band The Cruel Sea and also performing with the Beats of Bourbon. also joining the line up for this special event will be the amazing Melbourne based Vocalist Kylie Auldist who has worked with Cookin on 3 Burners for many years and also the Bamboos and has established her own solid solo career. She is an extremely talented Soul and Funk vocalist. Cookin on 3 Burners & Kylie Auldist performed on the Harbour Funk boat party that we did back in 2008 and tore it up, we look forward to this intimate performance at the Basement.
“Still on the button and tighter than a mosquito’s tweeter. Watch out…the Burners are back!”
