Join us Friday, June 6th from 6-9PM for Orange Dot First Fridays featuring the jewelry and sculpture of Therese Kuempel. She is one of our newest jewelry artists and we are excited to exhibit her sculpture for the first time!
Therese Kuempel is a metalsmith and sculptor based in Chicago, who recently received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her sculptures are inspired by the natural world and organic formations - the way in which things grow, bud off, and reproduce is a common them in her work. Her jewelry on the other hand is hand-made in her Chicago studio/home where she aims to create well-crafted designs that are both unique and empowering to the wearer. Designed with strong, clean lines, her brass jewelry is motivated by a juxtaposition of organic formations and geometric shapes. Inspired by the fleeting moments in the natural world, both her sculpture and jewelry designs capture a place between the impermanent, delicate organic and the impenetrable, industrial qualities of metal.
