The Flight Deck is a collaborative arts space and performance venue opening on June 6, 2014 in Downtown Oakland, where artists of all kinds and ages can work, play, collaborate, learn and thrive. A project of Ragged Wing Ensemble, it is home to multiple artists and organizations, and will contribute to making Oakland a cultural destination.
On June 6th, Ragged Wing Ensemble is opening The Flight Deck at 1540 Broadway, a shared multidisciplinary performance and art space for artists of all kinds and ages to work, play, learn and thrive in the heart of Downtown Oakland. Formerly a warehouse, the building that will house The Flight Deck stood empty and unused for three decades. Now we’re building a theater, a rehearsal studio, a gallery, and a co-working office. Additionally, Township, a restaurant featuring a full bar and seasonally-inspired interpretations of contemporary American cuisine, is opening next door in the same building. The location is easily accessible by foot and public transit, and there is a parking lot on the same block.
The Flight Deck will host performances, gallery shows, rehearsals, classes for youth and adults, and offer a membership program. The theater, rehearsal studio, conference room, and co-working space will be available for rental at reasonable rates. In addition to Ragged Wing, The Flight Deck will be home to five other resident theater and dance companies as well as visual and performing art members. The Flight Deck will build partnerships with local businesses, organizations, schools and city government to become a fixture in the community, providing a home for the arts in the East Bay and contributing to Oakland’s growth as a cultural destination.
The Flight Deck will celebrate our grand opening with a week of festivities from June 6-14. Check back for more details as we unveil all the exciting surprises we’re lining up!
