Maya Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by prize-winning Singapore-based Malaysian artist Valerie Ng. “Terra Incognita”, which means unknown lands in Latin, shows her recent abstract paintings where she explores the concept of getting lost, in a foreign land, and in the exploration of one's art, in his/her artistic journey.
Intrigued by the book The Field Guide to Getting Lost by Rebecca Solnit, Valerie likens the adventure of creating something to the experience of travel: “Getting lost in a different country is unnerving, but if you had kept to your safe route, you would not have stumbled upon all these gems tucked away on nondescript alleyways. Similarly when painting, there are moments of frustration, but when you do come across that golden moment, it makes it all worthwhile.” - An excerpt from the exhibition catalog by art writer Pamela Ng.
