Cheese Festival XVI and typical products

Santo Stefano Quisquina Agrigento, Italy

In the heart of the Sicani Mountains, 732 meters above sea level, takes place June 7 and 8, 2014, the Quisquina Cheese Festival - the XVI Festival of Cheese and local products.

Among the activities are conferences, workshops, performances, tasting of fresh milk, typical salsicciata, tasting freshly prepared cheese and other dairy products typical, such as cheese, tuma, the first salt and seasoned.

As a side dish, beautiful and unique sound of folk and traditional southern Sicilian wines to taste.

The territory is rich of water and fertile land has suffered several invasions and civilization, and the first reliable data dating back to 1729 when the country was dedicated to St. Stephen, probably because the area is crowned by mountains, Stefanos from the greek meaning crown.

To visit the beautiful buildings of the eighteenth century and, in particular, and the Mother Church of the sixteenth century dedicated to St. Nicholas of Bari which houses a wooden crucifix carved, the Church of the Shrine of Santa Rosalia, place in a pleasant place, full of greenery and located between the Cammarata Mountains and the Rose. Are notable urban architecture as the Baron's Palace of Ventimiglia in 1745 and the beautiful Fountain of the eighteenth century located in Piazza Castello.

The Natural Reserve of Monte Cammarata also includes the village of Santo Stefano di Quisquina, best remembered as a place of devotion: a few kilometers from the town, is in fact the Hermitage Quisquina, Santa Rosalia, where he lived for twelve years.
