WIND is the project of a ridge bicycle tour from Venice along the River Po in Turin, via Milan EXPO 2015.
The bike path becomes, in the perspective taken by the WIND project, that infrastructure that enables many people to take itinerant experience of landscape in the valley of the river Po, opening their eyes to the places that the habit of moving fast and motorized has gradually marginalized, but which instead are rich and full of culture.
The bike then becomes the means through which to invite hundreds of thousands of visitors to explore nature, landscape, art, culture and food, a territory that crosses longitudinally along the entire northern Italy.
An idea of cycling high and inclusive growth may become a novel idea and sustainable local development and territorial cohesion, a concrete and stable employment opportunity and economic revitalization in areas crossed distributed. WIND is a cultural project and new jobs, serious and innovative. Low-cost and high-performance social and cultural development.
WIND is not a local project, but a project of the country: the 679 km of cycling, are also 679 km of green economy, green jobs and growth potential of the economy. Consider that the 40,000 km of cycling in Germany produce 4 billion per year induced, stable and only for cycling (bike around the area comes to 16).
Hundreds of thousands of cyclists may ride along WIND, becoming the engine for many economies widespread: for the 12,000 farms close to the track, to the 300 already receptive activities, for the more than 2,000 businesses. WIND is a real green economy capable of generating up to 2,000 new jobs and promote healthy well-being in areas that today are in a great suffering because forgotten by the usual rhetoric of growth.
In part WIND already exist, in part, political and technical agreements would be enough to use the banks. Only a small part of the path must be made from scratch or made safe through relevant interventions. Already in 2015, with the opening of EXPO, could usher in some sections of WIND, the longest cycle in southern Europe.
To achieve WIND need a little more than € 80 million (this is the estimated expenditure in the works, and is equivalent to 0.01% of spending a year or more at a cost of 2-3 km of highway). But above all, we need the commitment of the State, 4 regions, 12 provinces, river bodies, municipalities crossed, coordinated by a single subject. The armature that could produce each year is equal to 100 million euro. Forever.
WIND does not stop there. Could grow by connecting with other major cycling (Brenner-Mantua-Peschiera, Mantua and Ferrara-Adriatico, etc..) And doubling on the opposite bank of the Po are endless potential. Even more endless if you think that WIND is connected to the train and river navigation. WIND is offered as a main backbone that can interconnect the flow of national and international scale. WIND implements part of one of the paths Eurovelo, route no. Mediterranean Route 8, and represents the natural evolution in key infrastructured and with high safety standards of the cycle route no. 2 Bicitalia network.
Cycle tourism is a cultural policy that takes shape through appropriate investment in infrastructure. These are also great public works on which a country must invest, opening a new era infrastructure.
Why the Tour
