Go past the fortifications at the entrance of the village leads to the central square, on which overlook the Oratory of Our Lady of Grace and the Church of Saint George, one of the examples of Romanesque architecture's most important sacred Piacenza.

The foundation of the original fortress probably dates from the tenth century, but the first historical records date back to 1141, when Vigoleno was an outpost of the Council of Piacenza on the way to the territories of Parma; around the thirteenth century came into possession of the Guelph family of Scotti, in conflict with Piacenza, then dominated by the Ghibelline factions, which attacked and destroyed the castle during the century. The third building was the work of the same Scotti returned possession of the fort in 1389 thanks to the Visconti, who also gave rise to the rank of the county. The remains of the castle today are largely the result of this restructuring century.
