BYOBM - BRING YOUR OWN BEAT MACHINE!
By popular request- competitors will now have the option of playing your music from a CD, mp3 player, laptop, or playing live from your own sequencer/beat machine of choice! Please make sure to indicate your preferred source material and any details in the registration form. Limit your source material to one item. (ie no elaborate studio setups, monitors, effects processors, additional keyboards, etc.) The only exception is if you are using a laptop and a controller. Space and time is limited- we need it to be as close to “plug and play” as possible.
Each contestant will be provided a sample that will be distributed 2 weeks prior to the battle and must be incorporated in some manner in the preliminary round. Judges will be looking to see how uniquely flipped the sample is used.
The beats are judged on the following:
1. Originality / Technique: Is the beat well chopped or simply looped? Are the samples recognizable?
2. Sonic Clarity / Mix: Are the high's high and the low's low?
3. Compositions / Transitions: Are there any switch ups?
4. Variety / Versatility: Are you presenting a good range of music?
