THE DEWEY BEACH RUNNING OF THE BULL!!!!
INVITE YOUR FRIENDS! EVEN YOUR FRENEMIES! EVEN FAMILY!!!
You know the drill by now. The 18th Annual DEWEY BEACH RUNNING OF THE BULL is July 12th, at The Starboard!
We gather all morning, we run at 2.
Olé! Olé! Olé! and SPREAD THE WORD!
Yes, indeed, runners, there's no better time than the present to start planning for Dewey's answer to Pamplona!
We start the day with the KIDS BULL RUNNING in the morning. The Starboard and Dewey Business Partnership and our friends Ally Oop Skim Board Camp bring the bull, a DJ, and a nice party on the beach on New Orleans Street Beach. We will have youth T-Shirts, bandanas, mascots, games, etc. As Ally Oop will show kids and our Bull how to skim, we will have some races and games for kids.
THEN, for the less mature:
Hundreds of people gather at the Starboard all morning, dressed in the traditional red bandannas and white clothing and, after several hours of celebrating, the participants parade through the streets and down onto the beach, where they are then chased down the ocean's edge by "the Bull".
The Bull, it should be noted, is two people in a bull costume.
After a low impact jog down about six blocks on the sand (two people in a bull costume do not run very fast), the crowd returns to the Starboard, where a bullfight is acted out. The revelers then continue to enjoy the festivities through the day and into the night.
And the excellent but increasingly dated article here...
Spread the word!
