HOWLING OWL | ITAMAR | E.N.V.
Friday night at The Monarch with an eclectic mixed bag of gems for your listening pleasure...
London-based indie pop act which has drawn comparisons with Morrissey, Jarvis Cocker and David Bowie. As well as receiving praise by radio presenters and critics alike, they have been played on more than 50 radio stations across the UK, including BBC 6 Music, BBC London, Kerrang! Radio, Amazing Radio and more.
From billboards on the London Underground to TV screens in New York City, critically acclaimed rap artist and classical pianist E.N.V is packing a punch on the music scene. His old skool influences and classical training set him up in the premiership of emerging artists, already holding two Top-40 remixes and reaching #8 on the MTV Click List.
His talent and passion have since evolved into a hybrid sound, described by one critic as ‘Macklemore meets Chase & Status’. E.N.V is now using his training as a classical pianist to bring credibility to urban pop. “Who’d have thought it?” says E.N.V. “I’ve shared the same stage as top artists like Tinie Tempah, Ed Sheeran and Tim Westwood.” Sponsored by fashion brand WeSC http://www.wesc.com/.
Howling Owl have just released their 2nd album – featured at their 100 Club, Oxford Street gig. The album, Let the Dog See the Rabbit, was conceived during gigs over the last three years – Borderline Club supporting Curved Air, at Water Rats, Kings Cross and other venues. The sound is guitar-driven, Americana, but with a distinct rock edge.
Tracks from the new cd have been played on the Radio 3. Late Junction’s Max Reinhardt described the band as ‘spiritually troubled’, after playing The Hanging Tree’ track recently, adding that though they sound deep south they are as London as Chas and Dave and come ‘from the same part of the Thames delta as Mick n’ Keef’.
