ANTON CALIGULA MAIOF
Anton Maiof is a composer and performer originally from Bristol in the south west of England, but now resides in Berlin.
After incredible disillusionment over the recording contract he was offered at the age of 19 Anton began working in the field of experimental music and noise and began the noise rock group Geisha (now known as Geisha Noise Research Group) in 2001 releasing records on Crucial Blast, Super Fi Records and Splatterkore.
In 2002 Anton started to perform solo under the name My Ambulance Is On Fire. A project that ceased to exist in 2007. He currently operates under the name Antoni Maiovvi a retro-futurist Italo Disco persona.
He also continues to work with Geisha Noise Research Group and The Cold Hand with Joanna Kupnicka.
Anton Maiof has also written a number of theatre and film scores and worked on a number of other artists records
POHL are Will Pearce (guitar/vocals), Hugo Morgan (bass) and Jamie Thompson (drums).
With a penchant for alcohol and all things heavy, the trio draw on a wide range of influences from the schools of grunge, stoner, doom, noise rock and hardcore, while remaining uncompromisingly experimental and original.
2012 saw them earn a reputation for their intense live shows and gain critical praise for debut EP ‘POHLSMOKER’, recorded as a two piece. In late 2013 they were joined by Hugo Morgan (The Heads/Kandodo) and recorded POHL II. They plan to gig and tour extensively throughout 2014.
In case you were wondering, the band pronounce it ‘pole’. You can pronounce it however the fuck you like.
Bristol based three piece drawing inspiration from the likes of Kim Gordon, Babes in Toyland, PJ Harvey and Patti Smith. Combining guitar, bass and drums with ukulele and melodica they create a fusion of snarly fuzzy punk rock and acoustic folk.
