The Canimambo Free Form Music & Arts Festival.
The Free Form Fest started out as a brain child formed from a small town musician by the name of Courtney Gibson.
Courtney’s family happens to own a Portuguese Restaurant called Canimambo which is situated in the beautiful mountain town of Graskop in Mpumalanga.
Every year the fest is hosted by the restaurant and they are also the main sponsor of the event.
The fest usually begins on the arrival of festival goers on the Friday before The Free Form Fest officially kicks in. A pre-party will begin at the local pub (Riders Rest) where locals, fans, tourists and performers get to know each other.
This year on Saturday the 13th of December festival goers will start pouring into the festival grounds with vibrant energy for a day filled with excitement.
The restaurant will open its doors at 11 am and the Free Form Arts in Motion Comp will begin. Each artist will paint, sketch, etc... to the theme of music in open air. All the paintings will be auctioned off and the proceeds will be donated to charity. The fest goers will be offered voting forms throughout the day and will be asked to vote for their favorite artist. The artist with the most votes at the end of the day will receive awesome prizes!
While all our free form artists are creating their pieces there will be some chilled out performances from various genres of music. This would be a good time to take advantage of the restaurants tasty cuisine and kick butt drink specials.
A little to chilled for you, you might say?
Not to worry friends because we will be spicing things up with some outrageous performances by the 136 Dirt Boarding Team! The boarders will shoot themselves onto ramps and into midair while rocking some insane tricks! This will be an amazing not to miss experience. Follow this link for more info on the 136 Riders: https://www.facebook.com/136forlife.
As the day turns into night be sure to sip upon a fish bowl to the sounds of Africa’s heartbeat. Yeah, that’s right, this will be the time that we start our very chilled informal drumming circle! We encourage people of all ages to try something new and be sure to bring your own djembe drums, didgeridoos and percussion instruments to join the fun.
Fire dancers will light the skies with an incredible glow and the stage will begin to vibrate with the most amazing up tempo Free Form Music. D.J’s will pull the masses and transform The Canimambo Cocktail Lounge into a mini club for those who like to boogie.
When the night starts thundering be sure to put on your docs and Slayer shirts to be prepared for the heavy metal to melt your faces!
For those of you, who don’t feel the heavy music don’t run away because the drumming circle and D.J’s are here to stay!
The Free Form Fest has a little of something for everyone so please join us for a magical experience in our awesome mountain town.
What To Keep In Mind?
The festival is held at a restaurant. The restaurant makes it possible to have the fest so please don’t bring your own DRINKS, FOOD or BAD ATTITUDES because nobody ever appreciates it and we can assure you that your weekend will be crap. Canimambo’s kitchen will be open until 9 pm and there will be an inside and outside bar which will serve drinks until 2 am. A small entrance fee will be asked this year and half the proceeds will go to charity.
