art:i:curate presents Curated by NoLIta, an exhibition of New York-based artists crowd-curated by people living and working in Manhattan's NoLIta neighborhood.
This project will reflect the diversity of the neighborhood and how disparate voices can come together to create one distinctive exhibition, as well as a dialogue with the art and the community.
The work will be showcased at The Nolitan Hotel throughout Summer 2014.
We have invited people in NoLIta to take part by choosing artworks produced by artists from our network who work in New York City. The process of selecting these artworks is documented by Ky Katrensky, an emerging local photographer, to highlight the faces and stories of this non-traditional approach to curating an art show.
Instead of the typical sterile "white cube" style gallery, art:i:curate chose The Nolitan Hotel, which is neither a private nor public space – to host an exhibition that will bring art into everyday life, and everyday life into art.
Collateral events will be organized throughout the show, which will run from June 13th through August 24th, 2014.
Curated By NoLIta is the first of a series of events intended to activate the individuals of New York’s neighborhoods through contemporary art.
