◆ NÔZE (Nico from Nôze DJ set) [Circus Company – FR] ◆
Between the mechanical throb of the nightclub and the laconic wooze of the bar exists a strange, smoke-filled space where you will find Nico and Ezechiel, better known as Nôze. From their distinct backgrounds in DJing and classical training respectively, their meeting led them to fuse the rough physicality of the dancefloor with the accomplished musicality of jazz, and somehow they came out smelling of rotten roses.
From their first appearances on Karat and Trapez, Nôze went on to become one of the key acts on Nico’s Circus Company label, before progressing to the German powerhouse Get Physical. From this prominent platform, the Nôze of today surge ever outwards, feeding the wild accomplishments of their past into a staggering tapestry of sound that manages to diverge into reggae, soul and pop as much as their original influences. The brothers in charms and their tales of love and absurdity will just as likely confound you as give you what you want, but then that’s always the attraction.
◆ STAVROZ [Délicieuse Records – BE] ◆
Ijsbrand & Gert had always wanted to create balkan inspired music, and hence came the duo Stavroz. Beyond just sharing the same musical tastes, these two buddies bond over both being sound engineers (live for Ijs, studio for Gert), which makes them real “goldsmiths” behind each and every production
Their music derives from classical inspiration of both jazz and burlesque. They lay somewhere between minimal and jazz-house but to specify them in a single genre would be obscure as they incorporate sounds often left out in electronic music.
After their first release on Délicieuse Records they've gathered an impressive amount of support: from being vinyl of the month in December 2013 for Faze Magazine, Germany to being playlisted by artists like Oliver Schories and Phonique... our friends haven't stopped since, frequently playing live shows and DJ sets between Germany, Belgium and France.
The duo has also expanded to accommodate their saxophonist Peter and guitarist Max, who have now become regulars at studio sessions and live sets. Although their core identity remains the same, they've currently been redirected towards a universe of deep and club.
